📚💡Reflection on "Good Strategy, Bad Strategy" book 📚💡 I recently read "Good Strategy, Bad Strategy" by Richard Rumelt. While I wouldn't categorise it as a "must-read," I found the "Kernel of Strategy" framework particularly insightful. This framework can be utilised to formulate a plan to address a challenge. Rumelt argues that a robust strategy comprises three essential components: a diagnosis, a guiding policy, and coherent action. As businesses expand and evolve, they often become complex entities that may lose sight of their core competencies and advantages. In our data-driven era, it's crucial for companies to maintain a straightforward and consistent strategy that all employees can comprehend and contribute to. To reinforce my understanding and continue my learning on Business Strategy, I'm revisiting the fundamentals by reading "The Boston Consulting Group on Strategy". Upon completing this course, I gained a robust understanding of business analysis, and Porter's Five Forces. I learned to identify business challenges, utilise economies of scale to enhance efficiency, and apply Porter's framework to evaluate competitive forces. The course includes real-world case studies, and expert insights, ensuring a development in actionable skills for strategic decision-making.

🤔 How do you evaluate transformational work in the public sector? "The public sector needs to update the paradigms, processes, systems, structures, and tools of their trade to better respond to the complexity of the challenges we face. This is transformational work." 🌱 I love what is being created in the Pushing the Boundaries of Public Sector Innovation community of practice. Last month's session on codification was very useful for me. This month we move to evaluation. As Francisca Rojas and Lindsay Cole explain "Complex systems — the playground of public innovators working toward transformation — have the following attributes: nonlinear; emergent; adaptive; uncertain; dynamic; and co-evolutionary. Yet many public sector innovation initiatives have attempted to demonstrate their value and impact by using the same approaches to measurement that are used for other government activities." Excellent introduction to Critical Systems Thinking- "In a conversation with Martin Reeves, Chairman of the BCG Henderson Institute, Jackson introduces the EPIC process (Explore, Produce, Intervene, and Check), a four-stage, sequential framework to help leaders deploy systems methodologies. Their discussion includes how different systems perspectives can be combined, how theory informs interventions, how organizations are embracing system thinking, barriers to adoption, and the relevance of systems thinking to today’s business environment."
