Despite being ranked the third most stressful job in the world (according to a study by the World Scholarship Vault), industry professionals continue to pour their heart and passion into every project. Business events play a crucial role in our economy, with significant impacts on tourism spending and economic growth. 💡 In Canada alone, business events account for 40% of all tourism spending, contributing $47 billion to the economy and supporting 242,000 direct jobs. The average spend per participant, per event, is $901, highlighting the significant economic impact of the meetings industry. Another timely discussion I was very happy to be part of - this time about approaching and measuring ESG as a strategic imperative, not just a compliance exercise. Both the why and how of climate and sustainability metrics are changing and firmly overlapping with wider geostrategy considerations for businesses. It’s time to break those silos and measure for impact, not audit, and look holistically at ESG dynamics as drivers of value. The reality is that the (geo)politics and the planet are likely to pull in different directions in coming years, affecting regulation, litigation and ultimately overall transition risk. So don’t get caught out by keeping climate, sustainability and geostrategy in separate buckets. Pankaj Goyal and Denny Wan wan are thought leaders in evolving Third Party Risk Management. It had been my pleasure to work with these gentlemen on the FAIR Institute’s FAIR-TAM standard.
