Could simplification be the secret weapon in cybersecurity? In a landscape where healthcare organizations are entangled with third-party dependencies, the risk meter is spiking. Adam Zoller and Sanjeev Sah shed light on this pressing issue in a recent webinar. Their take? Simplification isn't just a nice-to-have; it's a must-have for bolstering resiliency. And here's why I agree. In an era where complexity is often mistaken for sophistication, the call for simplification is both bold and necessary. Simplification means stripping away the unnecessary, making systems not just leaner, but also more understandable and, crucially, more secure. Why does this matter? Because in the intricate web of third-party relationships that define today's healthcare sector, every added layer of complexity is another potential vulnerability. Simplification, then, becomes a tool not just for efficiency, but for security. It's time we start viewing simplification as an opportunity rather than a compromise. An opportunity to enhance resiliency, streamline operations, and, most importantly, safeguard patient data against the ever-evolving threat landscape. Let's embrace simplification. Our cybersecurity resilience depends on it. [Read more about Adam Zoller and Sanjeev Sah's insights here](https://lnkd.in/eskq_MM8) Your thoughts? Lessons from the CrowdStrike Outage Hey everyone, I wanted to share some reflections on a recent event that has significant implications for all of us in the IT and cybersecurity fields. Last week, we witnessed what some experts are calling the "largest IT outage in history," caused by a software update error from a leading cybersecurity firm, CrowdStrike. This incident disrupted thousands of flights, affected countless businesses, and brought home some critical lessons about the fragility of our digital infrastructure. As someone deeply involved in IT and cybersecurity through my work at Armoureye, I see this as a humbling reminder of how vital our roles are in maintaining and protecting the digital lifelines of countless organizations. Here are a few takeaways that I think are worth considering: 😎 Diversify Your IT Providers: Relying on a single provider can be convenient, but it also means putting all your eggs in one basket. Diversification can help mitigate risks and ensure more robust resilience. 😎 Regular Software Audits: Mistakes happen, even to the best. Conducting frequent and thorough audits of software updates can help catch errors before they cause widespread issues. 😎 Have a Solid Incident Response Plan: It's not just about preventing problems, but also about being prepared to respond quickly and effectively when they do occur. A well-defined incident response plan is essential. 😎 Communicating Transparently: During times of crisis, clear and honest communication with clients and stakeholders is crucial. It helps manage expectations and maintain trust. 😎 We believe in the power of partnerships. By collaborating with Managed Service Providers (MSPs) and cybersecurity product vendors, we can offer comprehensive, reliable solutions tailored to our clients' unique needs. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Let's continue to support each other and share our knowledge to make the digital world a safer place for everyone. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or if there's anything we can help with. https://lnkd.in/e5kr4isw

When key vendors experience disruptions, like the notable #CrowdStrike outage, what are the best steps for damage control? Read our CEO, Vishaal 'V8' Hariprasad's latest editorial in Dark Reading for advice on how to make informed decisions that benefit you in the long run. 1️⃣ Don’t rush to switch vendors after an outage. While frustrating, it’s important to evaluate the vendor’s overall performance rather than react to a single incident. Consider their track record: one issue doesn’t erase years of reliability. Ask yourself if this vendor offers the expertise and communication your team can rely on in the long term. 2️⃣ When considering a switch, remember it's not just about finding a new tool. It involves onboarding, training, adjusting workflows, and potential downtime. Implementing a new system takes time and resources. Assess these costs against the impact of the outage to determine if the change will enhance resilience or disrupt your operations. 3️⃣ Base decisions on data rather than emotions. Before switching vendors, quantify the potential impact. Work with leadership to outline risks in relatable terms, such as productivity loss, financial costs, and overall risk implications. This week saw the exec team from Commvault take to the stage to deliver the latest announcements that underpin Commvault as a leading authority, not just for data protection where it made its name, but for Cyber Resilience and Recovery, providing best of breed tooling for the aggressive consumption of cloud services and applications where business host and run so many of their own service offerings. It was an insightful event and thoughtfully put together. Amongst all the scary statistics including that by 2025 (just around the corner), over 75% of businesses will be victim to attacks, one of the most prolific take-aways appears to be that just like it’s legacy of data protection, yet again business enterprises appear to believe that throwing tools at a problem is a solid form of defence, often in the absence of suitable testing. And of course, if the leadership team is failing to set out what recovery expectations actually look like, then the simple objective of meeting business requirements becomes infinitely harder. As brilliantly stated by EMEAI Field CTO Darren Thomson, we have three options when it comes to risk – accept, transfer, or mitigate. As IT professionals, we’re often at the sharp mitigate end of the stick but what’s so important here is organisations need to test their IR plans (and we’re not talking simple role plays). Everyone knows a story relating to untested backups that just didn’t provide what’s critically sort after when needed most, and we cannot afford to make those kinds of mistakes here when so much is at risk! Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results…. Summary take away from the event – you have to get leadership buy in and awareness of the likelihood of an attack. Form your teams, set up a programme, and extend into partners you can trust. Most importantly – test your recovery! #CommvaultSHIFT
