Marketing experts make more than drilling engineers. Here are the US averages and does not include bonuses or shares: Average Drilling Engineer III makes $156,614 annually. Average Marketing Communications Director makes $193,371 annually. (Credit Salary.com) I want to be clear that this is not an ego post. There's a large discrepancy in the oil and gas community when it comes to prioritizing marketing. Industries outside of O&G pay much higher for marketing expertise. What I've noticed is O&G hires an inexpensive marketing major who ends up being a glorified admin. Why is that? I have some thoughts but I want to hear yours. 👋👋👋 Hey I’m Rick and I’ve been in the oilfield. I’ve worked rig moves, supported midstream engineering staffs and had countless roles in the pumping unit servicing business. I’ve been around Oil and Gas the majority of my career and I’ve picked up on a dire need: Better marketing for oil and gas service companies. If you’re over wasting money on marketing and ready for a strategy that works, shoot me a DM. #ofs #oilfieldservice #drilling #drillingengineer #oil #oilandgas #permian #permianbasin #delawarebasin #midland #odessa

When applying for Oil & Gas jobs, it’s best to always assume your reader knows nothing about what you do. It’s also best to stick to covering EXACTLY what they’re asking for - nothing more, nothing less. Sometimes when you go above and beyond what’s asked in a job description, you come across as overqualified rather than landing in the top 1% of candidates. It also means that you shouldn’t assume your audience knows that your technical background can translate to something else. When I’m doubt, spoon feed your reader what they need to hear. This means putting ‘10+ years of experience in regional drilling fluids technical sales’ in the top of your resume if the job description SPECIFICALLY requires these things. Yes, you may have 18 years of experience. But they’re looking for 10+ years of experience. And writing ‘10+ years of experience’ also allows your content to align more closely with the job description in an ATS. Hope this helps, O&G friends! #oilgas #oilandgas #jobseekers #petroleum #energy #energystrong #drilling

One of my completions engineering clients has received 2 job offers from operators only 3 WEEKS after having his resume and LinkedIn rebuilt! This client has 7+ years on the services side and 4 years on the E&P side. His experience also has combined completions design work with field operations experience, making him a very well-rounded candidate for operators. He couldn’t gain traction in his job search due to two main issues: ➡️ His content was too services focused and didn’t come across as an ideal fit for operator environments. He had a tough time figuring out which content needed to be streamlined and what his audience needed to hear. ➡️ He used an ‘everything and the kitchen sink’ approach to writing his materials. Too much generic content and not enough focus! Since I’ve worked with so many completions engineers over the years, it was also helpful that he didn’t need to explain industry terms to me. 😊 Right now, he’s beyond excited about having options. I know vacations are still in full swing, but O&G hiring is going strong! Hope your job searches are going well too, friends! #oilgas #oilandgas #engineering #petroleum #energy #jobseekers #energystrong

When do you need two resumes to hit an Oil & Gas job target? When you have technical AND management goals. For instance, a completions engineer might want to target high-level technical engineering roles as an advisor, SME or consultant. At the same time, they might also want to break into a management role where they need to highlight their skills in collaboration, supervision, and/or departmental direction. Sometimes you want to be more in the weeds and other times you’ll want to be more high level. The tricky thing is that if you try to walk the line between both with one resume, you may come across as a 50% fit for both types of roles. Have you run into this before? I’d love to hear your story! #oilgas #oilandgas #petroleum #engineering

This is not what a pumping unit should look like. 🤨 Yet, most oil and gas companies hire marketing agencies who would have no idea what they're looking at. So it's no surprise when they spend tens of thousands of dollars on marketing, they end up mediocre results. I’ve been on rig moves, supported midstream engineering staffs and had countless roles in the pumping unit servicing business. I’ve been around Oil and Gas the majority of my career and I’ve picked up on a dire need: Better marketing for oil and gas service companies. You're company will grow with a strategy behind it's marketing. IT If you're unsure where to start, read the short blog I have below. Blog: Oil and Gas Marketing Strategy. (Includes a free training guide.) P.S. I'm sure they accidentally put that Lufkin logo on a Weathford unit 😅 #oilandgas #permianbasin #ofs #oilfieldservice #permain #delawarebasin #Midland #odessa #oilfieldlife #oilpatch #drilling #completions #fracking #frac

A Letter to Potential Employer! All the details of our work experience/s are written and stated in our Resume. So, kindly refrain asking a question or stating such as "Ah! So you don't have experience in Oil & Gas/etc.?". Yes we do not have an Oil & Gas/etc. experience since our previous companies have no project/work in such field. But, it doesn't mean that we are not capable of doing our job well. Because we will not reached this years of experience by doing nothing in our previous organizations. We worked for a longer period of time with our previous employers for a good reasons. Otherwise, they will not allow us to stay if we are not competent to do our job. That is the evidence. So, If you will not give us a chance to work in different industry such as Oil & Gas/etc., we will never have it in our entire career. Always remember, no one is born working in such direct field. It is just so frustrating to be judged! But what I can say is, you missed the chance of having an employee that is a potential asset of the company. 😉
