“Some of the people who are doing the most stressful work are some of the least served when it comes to leadership training and human skills and that’s healthcare. There are precious few if any offered in the hospital”
Now that Simon Sinek is talking about it, coaching in the healthcare world might finally get some real traction.
Come on #healthcareleadership#government this is not new, this is obvious and evidence based. You know it because coaching is all over the corporate parts of healthcare.
Get a big long term vision. The work we are doing right now to support #clinical healthcare leaders is a impactful investment in our whole community’s future health. There is no healthcare system without functioning clinical professionals. #AlliedHealth#Nurses#Doctors
Last week I had the privilege of personally commencing new 12 month coaching processes with 4 leading clinicians. 1 each in Public Health, Allied Health, ObsGyn, Surgery.
Medicine is complex, relational work. Leading others in complex systems or leading systems change is so complex in healthcare. Get yourself an accredited coach. Use your CME, claim it on tax, give yourself a great chance of something better.
If you are a doctor or a clinical lead book a time to talk with one of our Coaches: Australasia’s best coaching doctors team ✨🌱

I want to share my personal experience as a manager of frontline workers in the patient access department at a large hospital and highlight the importance of supporting our frontline team members.
🔸I urge all my colleagues and anyone who works the frontline, to take advantage of this excellent opportunity to sign up for coaching with Simon Sinek's The Optimism Company.
🔸However, I also want to emphasize the need for similar coaching for high level leaders and senior leaders who oversee frontline workers and leaders.
In my experience, providing this coaching to director level leaders and above (those who do not experience what “frontline” requires) would benefit not just the individual receiving it, but the entire team. Leaders equipped with the right tools and knowledge can better understand the challenges faced by frontline workers. Our efforts often go above and beyond, consuming valuable time and energy that leaders need to consider when setting standardized KPIs.
The impact of frontline work on patient experience is significant. If we fail to support everyone in this environment, including leaders, we risk increasing burnout without any solutions. It’s crucial for senior leaders to recognize that frontline workers require different handling and support compared to those behind the scenes.
In a previous management role, I tried to convey this message multiple times, but I faced resistance, a lack of support and understanding. Every frontline area needs additional resources, and it’s the responsibility of leadership to listen to the actual needs of the department and the team.
After detailing the challenges my team was facing, the senior leaders proposed a seemingly straightforward solution: "just divide the team in half." This approach, however, does not address the root of the problem; it merely adds to the stress for those already stretched thin with limited resources. Fragmenting the team I had worked hard to build resulted in half of us having to manage with even fewer resources, leaving us overwhelmed and without the necessary leadership support to handle the increased workload.
If senior leaders are expecting positive results from a divided team, they are misunderstanding the root of the problem.
🔸Simon Sinek, we need to advocate for the support of frontline workers and their aspiration to thrive in their roles while effectively assisting those they interact with daily. Providing these dedicated individuals with the appropriate resources is essential for helping them deliver real solutions and support to their patients. This investment will not only enhance the patient experience but also empower the frontline teams, allowing both groups to flourish together.

Coaching is a great opportunity to talk through thoughts and feelings and get feedback on existing mindset challenges that may be hindering physical, mental and emotional performance. It is not a replacement for medical advice and other professional assistance where appropriate. It is a tool to add to your wellness toolkit. 👍

Peer-to-Peer Recognition:
Encouraging peer-to-peer recognition allows nurses to express appreciation for their colleagues' hard work and support. Healthcare organizations can facilitate platforms or initiatives where nurses can nominate and recognize each other for acts of kindness, teamwork, or exceptional patient care.

🚀 Big news! Last week we launched ROSC Healthcare (roschealthcare.com), teaming up with EPICC Learning, who've facilitated programs for over 10,000 nurses across Canada. We're rethinking professional development for nurses and paramedics with a group of programs set to grow over the coming months.
Healthcare organizations have been under immense pressure for years, and impactful professional development can feel nearly impossible. That's why we've reimagined it with today's busy clinicians and educators in mind:
➡ Mobile friendly
➡ Hands-on, real-world workshops and scenarios
➡ No boring lectures - just engaging, practical learning
For health organization decision-makers:
➡ Cost certainty/cost-effective professional development
➡ Frictionless administration
➡ Flexible learning that can meet staffing and scheduling needs
Professional development is crucial for the retention of healthcare clinicians, to the point that the Chief Nursing Officer of Canada highlighted it as a critical strategy in the recently published Nursing Retention Tool Kit.
Let us make professional development frictionless for your organization and impactful for your care providers. Message if you'd like to hear more!
