Is Cuba safe? Here’s the truth 👇 There’s this false misconception about Cuba being unsafe but it is in fact one of the safest countries you can travel to. WHY? The Cubans know how important tourism is to their economy and their laws and culture are designed to protect tourists with some hefty penalties to discourage anyone trying to take advantage. There is of course, like anywhere, the potential of tourists being faced with pickpocketing and potential currency scams, but it really just comes down to keeping an eye on purses and personal belongings when in public. These are also alleviated by having your local tour guide on hand. Here are a few things that you might find interesting: 👉 Panhandling is illegal 👉 Cuba has a zero tolerance for illegal substances 👉 They have a statistically negligible homeless population and no gangs 👉 They have one of the lowest rates of gun ownership 👉 Low political violence and terrorism threat So, you can feel confident that you are safe. If you are travelling with an organised tour group, like any of our tours, you of course also benefit from having a local with you. 📱 We actually always give you the phone number of your guide so that if you run into any issues, you can just put them up on the phone or they’ll come over and help you. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We have a whole guide on safety in Cuba up on our website. 🔗 Tap the link in our bio to access it, and let us know: what questions do you have about travelling safely in Cuba? 💬 #authentictravel #discovercuba #cubatips #travelsafely #customtravelplanner #travelexpert #realcuba #therealcuba

On this historic day, we pay homage to the memory of more than half a million indentured labourers who passed through the gates of the Aapravasi Ghat, between 1834 and 1920, after they landed in Mauritius. These events were among the earliest explicit manifestations of what was to become a global economic system and one of the greatest migrations in history. The Aapravasi Ghat is the remains of an immigration depot, the site from where modern indentured labour Diaspora emerged. The depot was built by the colonial British Government in 1849 to receive indentured labourers from India, Eastern Africa, Madagascar, China and Southeast Asia to work on the island’s sugar estates as part of ‘the great experiment’. The Slavery Abolition Act, (1833), in British history, was the act of Parliament that abolished slavery in most British colonies, freeing more than 800,000 enslaved Africans in the Caribbean and Southern Africa, as well as a small number in Canada. It received Royal Assent on August 28, 1833, and took effect on August 1, 1834. After the abolition of slavery in the British Empire in the August of 1834, the British Government chose Mauritius to be the first site for what it called ‘the great experiment’ in the use of ‘free’ labour to replace slaves.
