“Why are you here?” 124 members have been duly elected by their constituency. As I age, I’m trying to breathe in the blessings of freedoms more often as well as appreciate this House chamber even more than I already do. We are the People’s House. It’s truly amazing & humbling to carry the baton for Easley for a speck of time. “Why are you here?” is the key question. With 124 members, motives & the spectrum of those motives vary member to member: Some are here to make a name for themselves. Some are here for policy. Some are here as community leaders. Some are here as a feather in the cap of a life filled with other service. Some are here to make money. Some are here to burn it down. None are necessarily wrong. Just know your member & motives. For me, again, not right, I hope it’s evident I’m here for policy & my community. Every two years is a roller coaster. Here’s to the 126th South Carolina General Assembly. (The 1st General Assembly formed in 1776.) May we do well for 5.3+ million citizens.

Dear community members, In a meeting this morning of the chief executive officers of the largest Jewish federations in New Jersey (Greater MetroWest, Northern, Southern, West-Central, and Heart), and in consultation with community leadership, we call for the following action items in light of the shameful capitulation of Rutgers to the pro-Hamas encampment. Public Actions • We call on the Jewish community and our friends and allies to sign the following two letters. The first letter is to the State Senate President Scutari and Assembly Speaker Coughlin, calling for an investigation into the negotiation and capitulation. Your local legislators will be copied as well. The second letter is to President Holloway and Chancellor Conway, calling on them to revoke the agreement, or to resign immediately. • We call on the Jewish community and our friends and allies to be present on May 16 for hearings in Trenton for the NJ Senate State Government Committee, in which vital legislation on antisemitism will be considered. Learn more • We will work with our student leaders, community representatives, and allies, to plan a large community rally at Rutgers in the near future to articulate our pain and outrage. Both political parties, representing antipodal political views, Harris on the far left and Trump on the far right have raised serious and unacceptable concerns about the political viability of the founding documents of the United States, Declaration of Independence and Constitution. Philadelphia is named after the Greek words "phílos" (meaning "love" or "friendship") and "adelphós" (meaning "brother"). Combined, the name means "City of Brotherly Love." The city was founded in 1682 by William Penn, an English Quaker, after whom the state of Pennsylvania, a key swing state in this election, is named, who chose the name as part of his vision to create a place where people of different religious beliefs could live together in harmony. Penn's naming of Philadelphia reflected his desire for the city to embody principles of tolerance, peace, and unity, which were central to Quaker beliefs. Benjamin Franklin played a pivotal role in the history of Philadelphia, where he lived for much of his life after moving there in 1723. In Philadelphia, Franklin became a successful printer, publishing the "Pennsylvania Gazette" and "Poor Richard's Almanack," which brought him wealth and fame. Franklin was a prominent figure contributing to the drafting of the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, both of which were discussed and signed in Philadelphia. His experiments with electricity and inventions, like the lightning rod, solidified his legacy as a leading scientist and inventor both in Europe and in America. The upcoming debate scheduled for September 10, 2024, will be organized by ABC News. The event will take place at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia and will be moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis. This is the first of the planned debates between Harris and Trump for the 2024 presidential election. The venue, National Constitution Center (NCC) in Philadelphia, is an important institution dedicated to the U.S. Constitution and American civic education. It was established by the Constitution Heritage Act of 1988. Located on Independence Mall, just steps away from Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell, the NCC serves as both a museum and an educational hub. The Constitution Heritage Act of 1988 was a federal law enacted by the U.S. Congress to create the National Constitution Center (NCC) in Philadelphia. Recently, the governor of Mississippi declared April 2024 Confederate Heritage Month. While I'm not surprised, I am increasingly disgusted in the political decisions made by the public servants of my home state. Enough is enough! Another great article posted by the Director of Second Look Network at The Sentencing Project regarding use of clemency powers to address excessive sentences. The number of older people in State & Federal prisons is increasing faster than any other age group. How could anyone claim that the point of incarceration was to incapacitate the truly dangerous when there are more people older than 55 in US prisons (165,000) than there are people in the high-crime range of 18-24? Geriatric healthcare in prison is both disgraceful and expensive. It costs on average, 3x more to incarcerate an older person than a younger one. Governor Andy Beshear could help alleviate the excessive costs mass incarceration has incurred on Kentucky as a proponent for second chances, and providing additional resources to protect public education and access to affordable healthcare-basic rights to the citizens of the Commonwealth. #SecondLookLaws #FreeKarenBrown
