Performing a peer review (esp for the first time) can be extremely nerve-wracking! Check out our 10 steps to help ..... 🔻 @ reviewercredits.com 👉 lnkd.in/gtcdC6m6 Great peer reviewers combine academic knowledge, strong communication, and a desire to do good work. They see being a reviewer as a way to help authors publish quality research and to advance their field of study. They want to make a difference and feel they need recognition for their work. Great peer reviewers must also be good time managers, not taking on review requests when they won’t have the time and focus to make useful contributions. As a researcher, you’ve probably already been at the end of good and not-so-good reviews. Maybe you’re already a reviewer, but feel something is missing in your reviews. More here 👉 lnkd.in/gtcdC6m6

On staying hopeful. In a recent exchange, I received the "clapback" that a person felt that senior editors and reviewers did not read their work. They argued they had read many papers with basic errors and that there was no way that an editor would ever read the paper. The person then did a "mic drop" and exited the conversation. I've thought about that exchange a lot. I thought about that exchange bc I'm often poking fun at reviewers, calling for positive change in the review system, and demanding better governance of journals and publishers. BUT. Where my counterpart was motivated to start our exchange out of despair, my motivation to call for change comes from optimism. My experience has been that on average ... ... senior editors care about making the right decisions. ... reviewers want to help accept good papers. ... authors don't cut corners when publishing. Most people involved in peer review are honest, act with integrity, and want to help improve their understanding of their topic. So when you get discouraged, and I have to do this with some frequency, that people involved in peer review want you to succeed! So don't get up hope, keep working, keep improving, and keep trying - and with continued effort - good things will happen! #acadmiclife #academiccareers #peerreview
