The Importance of Clarity in Messaging: A Call to Action for Small Businesses
This is a pain point that I am coming across all too often. It's a borderline tragedy and it needs to change, because without change, SME businesses will continue to struggle.
A small business, very good at what they do, with testimonials to prove it, passion, knowledge, results, yet, struggling to onboard clients and to get leads.
It's not because of lack of promotion, it's not because of the economic climate, it's not because of a fly-by-night 1-star viral review.
This business spent £5k+ for a 3-page WordPress website, charged £70 per font, extra after extra. Yikes!
Yes, the website looks good and doesn't break; however, the fundamental structure—the website navigation, the CTAs, the basics—are all over the place.
Too many clever taglines, unrelated images, indecipherable fonts.
It looks good but it doesn't mean anything to anyone except you! Aaaah!
It was painful to point out the elements that were unnecessary and confusing.
This is why it's so important to think about things from an outsider's perspective.
Be clear, not clever.
Be outcome-focused: Clearly communicate what your clients will receive from your service.
Keep it simple: Avoid jargon and complicated phrases.
Make it sensible to a first-time user: Ensure your website and offering are easily understandable at first glance.
Your passion deserves to be showcased effectively such that you have a chance to convert people who are actually looking for your expertise.
If your website isn't converting, let me know, there might be a few simple changes we can make.
