Political Tracker: The most unknown job in a campaign. Often an entry-level job in a campaign a political tracker is an individual who tracks an opposing candidate recording their speeches at rallies, individual conversations, etc... They essentially record everything a political candidate is doing. The reason they do this is to record any moment where a candidate might have said something offensive or off-message. This recording would be used against the candidate usually in a video/political ad. Trackers need to be informed about the positions and policy proposals of opposition candidates so they know when something is off-message for a candidate. Some trackers may ask questions to the candidates however this is considered uncommon. While the overall use of trackers in campaigns has become less common they very much do still exist. There are also Super PACs dedicated to doing this tracking. The two most famous ones include American Bridge (Dem) and America Rising (GOP). Although these organizations go more in-depth with their tracking going through voting records, press, public records, and traditional video tracking. While often criticized tracking provides an essential role of keeping campaigns transparent and accountable. #Politics #Government #Campaigns Photo by WCPN

If you worked on a political campaign this fall, congratulations. It is over! But as you now look at the stack of unread mail on your counter, a refrigerator with only a jug of milk dated May 3, and piles of unwashed laundry everywhere, you should be proud. Why? Because you learned valuable skills in media engagement. You • Monitored Election Coverage: You kept track of election news and identified opportunities in a crazy 24-hour news cycle. • Developed Media Relationships: You built critical relationships with journalists that will benefit you and your future clients over and over. • Pitched Story Ideas: You proposed stories that connected your candidate to the public and helped them win. • Prepped for Media Interviews: After dealing daily with the press, you are now ready for anything. Now go leverage the power of elections to advance your goals and take your next career step - after you nap for about a week. Oh, and call your mom. She is worried sick. #publicrelations #prtips #masterclass #politicalcampaign

🚨 Public Relations Professionals 🚨 Let's remember that the US Election is treated like a holiday when it comes to pitching and the news cycle. Even if your clients are insisting that you pitch this week, you know better and should advise them as such. Here are a few reasons to share with them as to why you should not be pitching this week: 1. It’s Giving Distraction - Everyone’s timeline is pure politics right now. Your brand launch or announcement is going to get buried under the election content tsunami. 2. Election Anxiety is REAL - People’s minds are on the results about who’s going to run the country. Trying to sneak in a pitch will fall flat 3. Read the Room - With the entire nation on edge, functioning as if it's business as usual makes you look tone-deaf. Save your pitch for a time when people aren’t glued to polls and election updates. 4. News Outlets and Journalists Are Booked & Busy - Reporters are fully immersed in election coverage and they’re probably ignoring non-political pitches. It's best to save your PR magic for when they’re back to looking for fresh, non-election, non-political stories. 5. Expect Low Engagement - Even if your pitch does get seen, it’s not getting the attention it deserves. People are barely engaging with non-election content, so wait until the dust settles to make a big splash. Basically, treat this week like a giant “out of office” for new pitches. 📵 Does that help? Anything to add? #PR #Pitching #Media #USElection 😊 🇺🇸 💻
