Coalition Submits 2025 Pre-budget Recommendation to the Standing Committee on Finance We are happy to share the Coalition’s Pre-budget Recommendation for 2025, developed in consultation with the Coalition membership. We will be working over the Fall months to share these recommendations in Ottawa and in the Ridings with government officials. Recommendation: 1. That the Government of Canada permanently allocate at least 1% of its overall spending towards arts, culture, and heritage. To achieve this for the 2025-26 fiscal year, the Government should increase its allocations by $270 million, via: a. An increase of $140 million to the Canada Council for the Arts; and b. An increase of $130 million to the Department of Canadian Heritage. Northern Ireland’s budget has been confirmed! 💸💵 More than £15 billion is being committed for the Departmental Resource DEL budgets, whilst just over £2 billion will make up the overall investment in Departments’ capital budgets. As outlined when devolved power was returned to Northern Ireland, funding for the next budget was a concern, and this has been backed up by the Finance Minister’s statement. Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald said: “Since devolution was restored, we have been really clear this was always going to be a difficult budget. The stark realist is the demands on our finances far outstrip the funding available many times over. No department has received the level of funding it has bid for. 📢 Informative day at the Ontario Ministry of Finance pre-Budget consultation in Markham! I had the privilege of attending this important event at the invitation of The Honourable Peter Bethlenfalvy, Ontario's Minister of Finance. I want to start by acknowledging and recognizing Minister Bethlenfalvy's ongoing strong support for businesses and his unwavering commitment to making Ontario one of the greatest places for business and commerce. His dedication to dialogue and meeting with stakeholders is truly commendable. As Ontario's government gears up for the 2024 Ontario Budget, today's meeting provided a crucial opportunity to share ideas on the key issues that need to be addressed in the next budget. We discussed strategies for getting critical infrastructure projects off the ground, attracting additional investments to create more jobs, keeping costs down for businesses, and improving government services. I would like to acknowledge the government's diligent work on prudent fiscal management and their commitment to accommodating the growing Ontario population. However, I also recognize the challenges they face in preparing the 2024 budget. It's no easy task to expand the tax base while simultaneously reducing the tax and regulatory burden on businesses across the province. I also want to extend my gratitude to Minister Bethlenfalvy for taking the time to engage with stakeholders like myself. It's through open and constructive dialogue that we can collectively shape policies that will drive Ontario's economic growth and prosperity. I can’t help thinking that the lead-up to the budget is a masterclass in how NOT to manage change. ➡️ Non-stop warnings of how tough the budget will be. After years of austerity, tax rises, high interest rates and a cost of living crisis, I’m not sure if trailing with this for weeks has been the best way to engage key stakeholders. ➡️ Connected to that is the length of time between the start of the new government and its first budget. It’s meant key stakeholders (i.e. the public) have focused on nothing but negative news for several weeks, with few discernible benefits in sight.
