FridayFunny…in honor of the PGA Championship…. The last thing I heard was “Oh no, that’s my CEO, don’t look, get in the cart”. I was golfing in New Jersey with the CIO of a very large insurance company. We were on the last stage of closing the deal, and we made our way to this great links course. I had told John that I was not a good golfer…I loved golf, I knew how to count to 8 or 9, I spend time golfing, but I sucked at it. His reply was…”well, don’t worry…I am good, I love it and we are going to have a great time”. So here we are on the 4th hole…he tells me…You know, my boss golfs here often.. As a side bar, revenue in an insurance company is measured in DWP…direct written premiums…and policies in force…so $$ coming in and client number.  This was a very large insurance company…and I was fortunate to be hanging with this guy for 5 hours. On the 6th hole, there is a group in front of us….We are waiting to play…and they are slow…so being the lousy golfer, John says, as I prepare to hit my tee shot: “You go ahead, you won’t reach them even if the wind was with you”. Well, even a broken clock is right twice a day…and I hit that ball without pressure, expectations of doing anything good which is likely why it went sailing, my mouth opening as the ball sailed and I screamed “Fore”…..I was terrorized….I looked at John and his eyes were the size of actual golf balls…. “Oh no, that my CEO, don’t look, get in the cart”.  Soooo we played 6 holes that day, on a nice links course in New Jersey…..2 months later,  John signed with us. Don’t let a bad game stop you. Don’t feel limited by your skills, just be aware of your limitations and keep going. Good things happen to those who keep charging ahead….oh – and the CEO was good with a scare, as John had warned me, the ball was close but didn’t reach them. #funny #sales #relationship #salescoaching

Personal Lines Insurance Pro Tip. Collectibles: (see: Upper Deck issuing a new golf card set) Make certain you have read the policy language and understand how your PL insurer will handle a claim involving your collectibles; including cards ... should a loss occur, eg water damage, fire, theft, etc. Most insurers will sub-limit (if any) a small amount for a claim involving a collection; typically depends on the type of collection ... artwork, musical instruments, sporting goods, silverware, etc., and oftentimes the sub-limit will be in a $1,500-1,000 range. Not much coverage. Fortunately, you have other options -- including adding a schedule (your insurer will clarify what is needed) to your HO policy or purchasing a standalone specialty policy (inland marine) with specific values / per item or via a blanket (less robust coverage) limit. Regardless of which method you choose to insure (asset preservation) your collectibles, please be mindful that coverage limitations do exist and you could suffer from an underinsured loss if you don't thoroughly evaluate available options. #TeamIMG #personallines #risktransfer
