💡 The European Commission has approved, under EU State aid rules, a €150 million Greek measure made available through the #Recovery and #Resilience #Facility (‘RRF') to support the construction of a carbon storage facility in Prinos. The recent approval by the European Commission of €150 million in aid for the construction of a carbon storage facility in Prinos aligns closely with the goals expressed by Efthimios Tartaras, Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company (HEREMA S.A.). During a recent FireChat on CCS at the 22nd CR Conference, The Pale Blue Dot, organized by the American - Hellenic Chamber of Commerce, Efthimios Tartaras discussed the complexities of storage facilities and highlighted the potential of utilizing the Prinos field. He emphasized the importance of reducing CO₂ production and generating electricity without releasing CO₂ into the atmosphere, noting that Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) technology is essential for significantly lowering emissions from industrial activities by capturing and safely storing carbon dioxide. The application for a CO₂ Storage License at Prinos, submitted to the Hellenic Hydrocarbons and Energy Resources Management Company on June 30, complements this initiative. Subsequently, on October 28, the European Commission announced its approval of €150 million in Greek State aid for the Prinos Carbon Storage facility. The EU funding will facilitate the development of the Prinos Carbon Storage facility, supporting Greece’s climate goals and aligning with the EU’s European Green Deal objectives for climate neutrality by 2050, all while minimizing potential distortions to competition. Together, these efforts represent a significant step toward a greener🌿 future, showcasing a collective commitment to sustainable energy practices and the advancement of CCS technology as a vital tool in combating climate change. 🎥 Watch the full discussion of Efthimios Tartaras on Carbon Capture: https://lnkd.in/e6Kp_m7j 🔗 Read the full article of the EU Commission: https://shorturl.at/Z53V1 Elias Spirtounias, Nikolaos Bakatselos, Pakis Papademetriou, Vasiliki Kapari (she /her) #ThePaleBlueDot #CarbonCapture #EuropeanCommission #ClimateAction

Camco and Green Climate Fund Sign $50M Agreement to Boost African Renewable Energy Projects ☀ 🤝 Camco has announced the signing of a $50 million funded activity agreement with the Green Climate Fund (GCF), marking a significant partnership milestone since Camco became a GCF Accredited Entity in 2021. 📆 The agreement follows almost exactly one year since the GCF Board approved $50 million for Camco’s REPP 2 fund. With this agreement, GCF is formally positioned to take part in the anticipated first close of REPP 2 in the coming months, helping Camco stay on track for its 2024 goals. 💼 GCF’s investment in REPP 2 will serve as a foundational component in the fund’s blended finance model, which is structured to combine public and commercial investments aimed at supporting decentralized renewable energy initiatives across Sub-Saharan Africa. 🌱 Once operational, REPP 2 will focus on generating significant climate, economic, and gender equality impacts while ensuring sustainable returns for its investors, driving progress toward renewable energy adoption in the region. Congratulations to Geoff Sinclair, Kavita Sinha! #Camco #GreenClimateFund #REPP2 #RenewableEnergy #BlendedFinance #ClimateAction #SubSaharanAfrica

The first Great South West Annual Conference isn’t the start of the road to a single, powerful voice for the region, but hopefully it’s a big step further forwards. The MPs (and minister) here have been told in no uncertain terms that we need them, and all of Westminster, to stop thinking about the South West as a tourist destination and instead recognise its strengths in renewable energy, defence, manufacturing, mineral extraction, agriculture and agritech etc etc. My thought, most of the way through the day, is that the South West can (and already does!) give more back to the rest of the UK than is put in. If #backthegreatsouthwest can help with the messaging, shouldn’t the pithy message be that with enabling investment the South West can help to solve the uk’s economic challenges by providing innovation, energy and a growing trade surplus?

Making best use of the Recovery & Resilience Facility for driving #CarbonStorage action. Retrofitting oil platforms for reversing the process might prove a very efficient solution for carbon removal. In searching technical means for #climateaction, we must never forget that the most viable solutions in the long term arise from renewables, energy conservation measures and nature-based solutions for reducing emissions. #ESG #Sustainability #PaleBlueDot24

𝐀𝐥𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐞’𝐬 𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐧’𝐬 “𝐠𝐚𝐬-𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲” 𝐰𝐨𝐧’𝐭 𝐬𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐠𝐚𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚’𝐬 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 The Wilderness Society condemns the Albanese Government’s “future gas strategy” for putting the interests of the world’s fossil fuel companies ahead of a safe climate for all and the protection of Australia’s unique and world-class natural environment. The gas industry should be on notice that this government bail-out package is not going to stop the industry’s inevitable decline and will fail to turn around the record low investment in projects. As was the case with Morrison’s “gas fired recovery”, today’s announcement will not magically address the fossil fuel industry’s absence of a social licence, or the structural decline of the gas sector. Tim Beshara, Manager of Policy and Strategy at the Wilderness Society says, “Australia’s fossil fuel industries are past their use-by date and bailing them out ignores the need for Australians to have a safe climate. “The Morrison Government tried to bail out the industry with its reprehensible “gas-fired recovery” launched in response to Covid-19 and it didn’t stop the industry’s decline. It’s an error by the Albanese Government to direct resources away from the necessary energy transition, towards propping up an industry that is completely misaligned with Australia’s national interest. “The Albanese Government is attempting to give public relations cover to a “future gas industry” when there simply isn’t more gas that is aligned with a climate that is safe for nature and people. “The Albanese Government is tying its political fortunes to a declining bad-faith industry that operates in a regulatory system that does not ensure a fair say for communities, and that attempts to trample on clear opposition from First Nations groups such as the Gomeroi. The Government would do well to remember that tying itself to fossil fuel interests like this worked out badly for the Morrison Government and is part of the undertow bringing down the Sunak government in the UK. https://lnkd.in/emQ25Jmb
