I've had this feeling for a long time that the most powerful strategic decision that a leader can make to become more effective is to ask some pretty good questions about 🔥 WHAT's REALLY GOING ON. 🔥 There's some pretty good research backing up that view but I'm not going to bury you in it today. 😁 I've just run across a remarkably constructive discussion of the power of intelligent questions in the workplace -- and how to effectively use the tool -- in this article: "Use the 'magic wand of destiny' to get the desired outcomes" by Kathy Torrey. I think her ideas are potentially powerful tools for MOTIVATING and EMPOWERING younger workers who leave some traditional managers disoriented now and then. (The young ones aren't kidding. They DO see a few things differently.) The article by Kathy Torrey was published by one of my favorite clients, SmartBrief, a division of Future, and it is FREE. Just click and read. 😁 #leadership #motivating #empowering #SmartBrief #Future 🌍 🌏 🌎 REG CROWDER - Freelance Financial Writer - www.regcrowder.com https://lnkd.in/eWsFxTW8

❓💡Each time I say "Yes" to an ask, what am I saying "No" to in order to make space?💡❓ This is a really useful question and tool to ask yourself in business. And a lesson I personally learned the hard way. As a "people pleaser" and a natural enthusiast, saying "Yes" to opportunities, coffee meetings, a 'quick call' or question and helping someone out where I could was my go-to and default. It brought me lots of opportunities, connections and learning. I've also no doubt that this responsiveness, availability and desire to find solutions and solve others problems was also key to the success of my business and client relationships & feedback. Our time and energy is finite though and so important to protect. Each time I said yes to an unscheduled call, rearranging meetings or travelling at short notice, taking on an extra task or project, revising a deadline or adding on extra deliverables, would often entail getting up even earlier, staying up late, changing personal plans, skipping my swim or relax time - or often just not being fully 'present' in my downtime or with family and friends. This is a choice we each have to make and there are times that drive and ambition will push us to achieve amazing goals of course - but as I learned, this isn't sustainable, and longterm you can't grow or scale a business that way effectively. As you build and lead a team and grow your client base, it's essential to set healthy boundaries, expectations and working practices and to be respectful of your own time and others. The metaphors below are very powerful. The power of purpose, the reality of failure, and fill your cup first are ones that resonate with my outlook on life.
Mind blown. 🤯 10 visuals that will change your outlook on life. 🔄 These amazing graphics are are the handiwork of Pejman Milani. 1. The Reality of Failure → Fail, learn, iterate. → Failure is the foundation of success. 6. The Impact of Storytelling → Stories transform experiences. → Master storytelling, master influence. 7. The Beauty of Resourcefulness → Resource ≠ Resourcefulness. Having the right tools isn't enough. → Resourcefulness can make all the difference in the business game. 8. Clarity with Writing → Stuck in thought? Write. → It’s the escape hatch for clarity. 9. Complete Creativity → Creativity thrives in light and dark. → Embrace all moods for sparks. 10. Fill Your Cup First → To give your best, be your best. Help others from a place of strength. → Self-care isn't selfish. These insights are more than ideas. This one is going to hurt. You're not stressed because of your business. You're stressed because you deem it to be stressful. And that's a huge difference. Because everything changes. The goal isn't to: - Slow down the business growth - Change the structure - Or take less clients The goal becomes stupidly simple: - Replace the beliefs working against you That's it. It's not easy. But it's that simple. The world isn't stressful or peaceful. The world isn't negative or positive. The world is what you make it to be. --- How I can help: I guide CEOs & leaders to stay at the top & become the 1% by deleting their mental burden. Sometimes I feel like being a leader means I’m in a near-constant state of asking myself, “OK, so what can I learn from this?” I often look at work (and sometimes life) as an experiment. I’ve been a business owner for 20 years now and it’s impossible to get it right all the time. And it’s certainly impossible to be all things to all people. My work, whether it’s writing, or speaking, or building and leading a team, is constantly being evaluated, tweaked, and adjusted along the way. But one thing being a business owner has taught me is to focus on progress over perfection. ♐ Your work towards creating a more equitable and inclusive organization is also an experiment. There is no one way to do this work. Mistakes will happen and you might even accidentally offend someone. It's unrealistic to expect otherwise. But self-reflection, tweaking, and adjusting are (or should be) part of the process. I often say in my talks, “what matters is how you recover.” 💡 Will you stall out or keep moving forward? #KeynoteSpeaker #DEI #diversityandinclusion #5ThingsDEI #HumanResources

Level up the mindset of your leaders. And your business will run itself. "I'm worried my best people are going to burn out" Is a common thing I hear from the business owners I work with across a range of industries. No business owner wants to lose their best people. Or feel responsible for them having poor mental health. But this situation is common because you inevitably put your best people into senior roles. Especially in todays fast paced world, senior roles are 'stressful'. You've had years of adapting to the stresses of business but they haven't. If the matrix were real you could just plug them into your way of thinking and they'd be good to go. But it's not (I don't think) so here's the next best thing. Give them the support and guidance to level up their minds. When they have fully adapted a growth mindset, they will be virtually immune to the stress of business. Not immune as in it won't happen but immune as in they can handle it. And not just handle it, but learn to thrive in their positions. Which means you can enjoy not having to run your business. Win/win. I did an in depth video on this you can share with your team, It's here: https://bit.ly/3BgrWLz

In today's competitive landscape, it's tough being a business leader. With all of the pressure that comes with running a company, especially when combined with personal obligations, it can be easy to forget just how far you've already come. If you’re struggling to extend yourself some grace and practice self-care, you’re not alone. It's imperative to take the time to give yourself the same encouragement and understanding you show others. Your first and most important relationship is with YOURSELF. Whether through scheduled downtime, a support system, or reflection and mindfulness, take time to care for yourself and remind yourself that you’re human, too. Before you are anything else - you are human. Before you're a business owner, a boss, a manager, a creative - you belong to yourself first.
