There is growing evidence for the use of antibiotics to prevent NON-HIV STIs. However, in 2021, the BASHH and UKHSA published a joint position statement against using antibiotics in this manner for STIs other than HIV. So, what is our role in primary care? https://hubs.li/Q02_pCLN0

True lenacapavir is a game changer but then comes the elephant in the room which is the intellectual property barriers. The original brand Sunlenca costs over USD 42000. That is about KES 5.2Milliion(Note that studies have it that it could be made for as little as USD 40 per year). How many people will access it? Which donor will invest that amount for 2 injections for one person per year? In short, until we have the generic version of lenacapavir, it will remain a mirage for many.

This an example of why disease education really matters ! Saving lives isn’t an option. . . Education about BBV (Blood-Borne Virus) prevention is essential because it helps individuals understand how viruses like HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C are transmitted and how to protect themselves and others from infection. By promoting awareness of safe practices such as using clean needles, practicing safe sex, and avoiding sharing personal items like toothbrushes and razors, education plays a critical role in reducing the spread of BBVs and improving public health outcomes. #health_prevention #HIV_awareness #Health_education

The fight against #HIVAIDS has been an incredible journey; this once-mysterious epidemic has gone from being terminal to manageable in the last 40 years. On #WorldAIDSDay and during #WorldAIDSMonth, I want to reflect on the scientists, patients, doctors, and survivors who worked tirelessly to change perceptions and prioritize early diagnosis and treatment. Let's continue to keep HIV/AIDS as part of the conversation as we continue to move toward a transformative 21st-century approach guided by prevention/protection and universal access to effective diagnosis and care! #AIDSCanBeBeaten #RocheAfrica #RocheDiagnostics #HIVviraload #IVD #accesstodiagnostics

At #SAHCS2024 LAI Conference, Prof. Francois Venter presented an insightful overview of #Lenacapavir, a first-in-class capsid inhibitor that is making waves in HIV prevention and opening new possibilities with its unique 6-month dosing schedule. The drug has shown mild side effects, primarily nausea, headaches, and occasional mild injection site reactions. Significant drug-drug interactions are manageable. The success of Lenacapavir hinges on overcoming logistical barriers and improving access for broader use. #ClinicalTrials #ClinicalResearch #HIVPrevention #EndHIV

What is U=U? what does it mean? U Stands for Undetectable =U stands for Untransmittable. U=U is a public health campaign to share the message that if your blood tests reflects then, you have no detectable HIV, that is, (an undetectable or zero viral load) then you can't infect anyone else with HIV (untransmittable). An undetectable level can only be achieved through medical adherence which results to a zero viral load. This means taking your antiretroviral drugs correctly and consistently as prescribed by your doctor. #Apyin #Apin #icare #Cihp #pepfar #who #Nhvmas
