Kaeser had a tiered training program for their field service technicians. A graduated program That started at entry level and went to master senior level. After completion of each class, they moved to a new tier and pay rate. THE Post COVID market has created a monster. The monster is both internal and external to the market. Inflation has driven the cost of everything up. It is harder to get by. Candidates now have a sea of unlimited opportunities. Owner, vice presidents, and sales managers, what are you doing to retain people and grow your business? Looking for your next service manager, sales superstar, or VP? As a Sales person when you receive an approach about a new opportunity that may further your career how inquisitive are you being? Many Sales professionals are inquisitive in nature but for some reason this stops when they are qualifying opportunities for themselves. If you got an incoming lead through would you just reply to it with a closed question and kill the conversation? Or would your aim to be to try and discover more information? Do you ask what attracted the hiring manager or recruiter to your profile? Do you try to find out what a career path could look like in the particular industry you were approached about? Do you try to find out what level of remuneration your peers are currently receiving? Do you try to find out how long it can take to further your career in your current industry? Do you try to find out what industries are booming and what ones are dying? Or do you just respond with: If it doesn't meet X or Y i'm not interested? Always be inquisitive especially when someone wants to discuss your career with them. You will get a far greater picture of where you can take your career. #sales #hiring #salesrecruitment

What is the best way to enjoy your job? For me, it's operating outside of my comfort zone. I used to hate sales. Now, I love it. When I started out in recruitment, I deliberately chose a role that avoided BD. I was afraid of cold-calling, worried I'd be annoying people. Best left to the "stereotypical salesperson." Not for me, I thought. But over the years, I began “selling” more out of necessity than desire. Gradually, I caught the bug. Sales keeps me outside my comfort zone. Every time I pick up the phone, send that email, or walk into a meeting, I feel excited. I control what I can—but I never know the outcome. Yes, no, or (the worst) maybe. But that uncertainty is part of the fun. I’m excited to continue the journey. My advice? Keep yourself uncomfortable, always learning, and always testing yourself. MORAL SUPPORT This is for the person who called me yesterday looking for a new position. I ask them “What is motivating you to make a career change?” You told me that your current company hired a new sales manager a few months back and things have changed. “Tell me what has changed?” You were professional when you explained why, but I could hear the strain in your voice. Your manager is scrutinizing every detail of your work. When a sale has not come through, you have to explain to your manager for 30 minutes why it didn’t and what you should have done differently. You’ve been late to a few calls as talking to your manager is more important than calling a client at a specified time. When you’ve asked for assistance in structuring an offering, you're told that you should already know how to and why is this so difficult? When you take a day off, you are told to make sure to have your cell phone on you and to check emails a few times a day. In your 5+ years of sales, you have always hit quota or better. And now for the first time ever your numbers are falling. I offer you this support: You have a BOSS right now, not a manager. Any salesperson's numbers would suck with a BOSS like that. There are many companies out there that are nowhere like the situation you are in. They have managers, NOT BOSSES, that will coach and educate you. They will support you during those periods of time when sales aren’t happening. You have a great resume and a solid LinkedIn profile. "I want to be in sales" I bet if asked at school what career path you want to take, very few, if any students would say the word sales. I find this a real shame, especially given that some of my most successful business friends started in sales in one shape or another. Technology sales is a particularly lucrative career path (if you are good) and more people, in my opinion should be encouraged to use skills to be in sales.
