Getting paid on time for your hard work is one of the most rewarding aspects of any job. However, I remember working at an organization where delayed salary payments were the norm, with no explanation from management. It was not only frustrating but also financially draining, as I had to find alternative means to cover my expenses. This experience reinforced the importance of efficient payroll management in any organization. Timely payments are essential to maintaining employee morale and trust. In addition, bonuses, salary increases, and other incentives help keep employees motivated and engaged. A well-structured payroll system, managed by a dedicated payroll manager, is critical for ensuring smooth operations. It helps prevent compliance issues with tax and labor laws and keeps employees satisfied. Every company has different compensation structures, so it’s crucial to understand and manage them accurately. Outsourcing payroll management can be a smart move for companies looking to streamline their operations and focus on strategic growth. Key aspects of payroll management include: 1. Employee Information Management 2. Time and Attendance Tracking 3. Gross Pay Calculations 4. Deductions and Net Pay Computation 5. Payroll Distribution I’ve gained significant expertise in payroll management over the years, and I’m passionate about helping businesses navigate this essential function. Shawny - So what would your advice be to senior payroll professionals looking to step up into leadership? Rebecca Fletcher - My advice would be to have a very, very good think about is this for you? You know, part of my job description isn’t just being a manager and coming in and telling people what to do every day. You know, there is far more to it. I think given my payroll background, that’s one of my things that, I really do try and drop into department heads or anyone that has to sign off on timesheets. That’s a part of your role. You know, the people in your team are part of your role. So having great technical skills and being an amazing payroll officer doesn’t always lend itself to someone being the right fit for a manager position. It really is something that you do need to be very passionate about and know what you’re sort of getting yourself into. It’s not, you know, peaches and cream every day. You take on the weight of your entire team, and if someone doesn’t get paid properly or on time, that sits with you, not the payroll officer. So it is. It’s a lot of work. You know, the amount of additional hours that I’ve done through my management career, I would love to calculate. But I do it because I love doing what I do, and I think that that’s where it lies. You know, progressing for the sake of progressing is probably not the best way to go about it. Loving what you do and knowing why you want to step into that next role is so important. #insights #payroll #careerprogression #careerpath

Hello LinkedIn folks, I recently immersed myself in a short course to gain a deeper understanding of the intricate relationship between Human Resources and the Payroll Finance team. The insights I garnered were truly enlightening. Firstly, I explored the classification of employees. Employers categorize their workforce as either exempt or non-exempt, and as full-time employees (FTE) or contractors. This classification has significant implications for payroll processing and compliance. Additionally, the course illuminated the complexities of calculating Paid Time Off (PTO). It was fascinating to learn how various laws influence these calculations, ensuring that employees receive their rightful benefits. Most importantly, the course underscored the concept of equity in the workplace. Equity, in this context, refers to the principle of providing equal pay for equal work, irrespective of gender. This is a critical aspect of fostering a fair and inclusive work environment. Understanding these elements has deepened my appreciation for the complexities involved in HR and payroll management. If the rules are not applied correctly, it can lead to tax implications and fines. Furthermore, companies can manage payroll through different systems: a manual payroll team, an in-house automated payroll system, or an outsourced payroll team. Each of these approaches has its own advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, companies must strike a balance based on their specific requirements. This course has provided me with valuable insights into the multifaceted nature of HR and payroll management, highlighting the importance of precision and equity in these processes. #HR #Payroll

A Journey Through Numbers: My Path as a Payroll Professional It is a National Payroll Week—a time to celebrate the unsung heroes behind the scenes who manage one of the most crucial aspects of any organization: PAYROLL. I decided to take a moment to reflect on my journey as a payroll professional, a career that has not just shaped my professional life but has also become a significant part of who I am. I still remember the day I first stumbled upon the world of payroll. I had envisioned a career in medical profession. However, fate had other plans. When I was offered a position in the payroll department. At the time, I didn’t see this as a stepping stone but rather as a detour from my main ambitions. Little did I know, it would become the cornerstone of my career. Initially, I approached the role half-heartedly. The monotony of numbers, spreadsheets, and compliance seemed far less thrilling. However, the process of calculating hours, deductions, and benefits became a puzzle. I was determined to solve. And with each solved puzzle came a sense of accomplishment. I started seeing payroll not just as a number-crunching exercise but as an integral part of employee satisfaction and retention. With this thought, I climbed the grades within my company. I transitioned from processing payroll to overseeing the department. I embraced the challenge of managing a team and training other resources on Payroll. The pride I felt watching them grow was rewarding. As I navigated through various payroll challenges and projects—tight deadlines, complex tax laws, and ever-changing regulations—I realized that payroll is much more than a task list; it’s a profession that requires adaptability and vigilance. Now, nearly a decade into my payroll career, I proudly share my journey with others, not just to celebrate the profession but to inspire future payroll professionals to embrace the unique path this field offers. Payroll is indeed a career, a calling that intertwines numbers with people, ethics with efficiency, and responsibility with impact. This National Payroll Week, I celebrate not just the triumphs of my own journey but also the countless other payroll professionals who ensure that businesses run smoothly and employees feel valued. Together, we are building a future where payroll is recognized for the vital role it plays in every organization, and I couldn’t be prouder to be part of this incredible payroll community. #Qxglobalgroup #NationalPayrollWeek #NP24 #CelebrateSucess #Payroll #QX

𝐀𝐬 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬, 𝐰𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐫𝐨𝐰, 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐝, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞. If you've been in global payroll for a few years and are starting to feel stuck, you're not alone😔. Over the years, I've worked with and mentored thousands of professionals, and one recurring issue I've noticed is organizations failing to provide a clear career path for payroll professionals. This is a significant challenge that needs to be addressed. It's easy to fall into our comfort zone, getting too familiar with the same routines and roles. 𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧, 𝙖𝙣 𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙙𝙪𝙖𝙡 𝙬𝙝𝙤 𝙞𝙨𝙣'𝙩 𝙜𝙧𝙤𝙬𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙬𝙞𝙡𝙡 𝙨𝙤𝙤𝙣 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙜𝙣𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙥𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙙. My recently published book addresses this growing concern. Many professionals feel stuck, overlooked, and undervalued, while the C-suite often mistakenly attributes underperformance to incompetence. In reality, it's often due to low morale, a lack of vision, and an unclear sense of purpose among payroll professionals. When one's career seems uncertain, staying motivated and proactive is hard. However, the potential for growth and improvement in global payroll is immense. That's why both payroll professionals and growing global organizations must approach global payroll with a strategic plan of action, clear expectations, and a commitment to continuous improvement. Whether you're a payroll professional reading this or an executive at your organization, your perspective is crucial in addressing the challenges we face in global payroll. I'd like to hear from you. What do you think needs to be improved in the global payroll to increase performance and job satisfaction and streamline the payroll process? Today’s HR Q&A ❓Question: A new employee told coworkers that she received a signing bonus. Now they’re upset, saying they’ve been here longer and haven’t gotten anything extra. What should I do about this situation? ✔️Answer: First, don’t reprimand the new employee who shared her salary information. Discussing pay is a protected concerted activity under the National Labor Relations Act. Second, it may be worth thinking about why you offer signing bonuses but not retention bonuses, and whether you can afford to do both. If you’re offering sign-on bonuses because it’s hard to hire right now, realize that not offering matching retention bonuses may ultimately lead to more open positions if your long-term employees decide to leave over these kinds of inequities. Additionally, be aware that offering one type of bonus but not the other could create pay disparities between employees who do similar work, which could expose you to discrimination and pay equity claims. Third, be transparent about pay decisions as appropriate. Sharing your reasoning with employees can provide clarity and understanding, helping to prevent surprises. Outsourcing your payroll to the right payroll team not only saves you money, time and resources, it also ensures you remain compliant.
