Amazing how Q1is gone already! I am struck by how swiftly time passes... I find myself filled with gratitude for the journey into the year so far, despite facing numerous rejections along the way. Each "NO" has been a stepping stone towards greater resilience and clarity in my career path. While it's easy to feel disheartened, I choose to embrace hope and persist with determination. I am definitely not giving up on the ambitions I have set for myself and I remain excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. Cheers to making comebacks! #newstrategy

Some highlights from my career.

In the journey of our careers, it’s important to remember that it’s never too late to pursue our passions or reinvent ourselves. Just as George Eliot said, "It's never too late to be what you might have been," so too can we embrace the idea of setting new goals, no matter our stage in life. Decoding the Life I Chose (Or, at least, trying to) - Being an international student is like entering a new world, where you're the captain, the crew, and sometimes even the lifeboat. The tasks? Juggling job rejections like a pro, navigating unfamiliar systems, and still finding time to make sure there's food on the table (and caffeine in the cup)! I knew the journey would be tough, but what I didn’t expect was how tiring it can be to juggle everything. Between the “Thanks, but we’ve moved forward with other candidates” emails and the silent applause I get from myself for making it this far, it’s starting to feel like I’m playing a video game on expert mode. Every “Thanks, but no thanks” is like a new notch in my resilience belt. And it feels as though I’ve mastered the art of the “keep going” pep talk. We celebrate wins on here all the time, but let’s take a moment to recognize those of us just trying to make it through round after round of “not this time." We’re basically leveling up in silence, building our resilience stat one rejection at a time. And when the recognition finally shows up? Let’s just say it’s going to find us battle-tested, overqualified, and way ahead on our personal growth points. Until then, let’s keep going—because if life isn’t handing us applause, we’ll just create our own soundtrack :)

What got you to your current position at work may not be enough for the next ambit of your career progression. Increasing your chances of promotability at work involves more than just performing well in your current role. Many hard workers are constantly overlooked when new opportunities for upward mobility emerge. Being next in line requires a strategic approach to developing your skills, building relationships, and demonstrating leadership potential. 

On Friday we exhibited at #LBE2024 Merchandise 4 Impact Do you know what was really lovely? The number of people who came over to our stand asked if I was Laura Hartley and said I had placed them in a job 😁 They remembered me, most of them I remembered too. Some of them have been in my life one way or another for years. Sara Knagg - Whiteley being one of them. From starting out as a temp, she went on to secure a perm position and grew with the business, booking her temps through us. Sara continued in developing herself and built a career to be proud of. Now Sara is a Merchandise 4 Impact client 😄 funny how things evolve. I feel a proud, warm and fuzzy when people say "it is because of you..." it isn't because of me, it is because they took the opportunity presented to them, showed up and made the good stuff happen. I feel proud of what they have achieved, and I played a very small part in that. Meeting Sara on friday and a few of the others, I do feel a bit nostalgic of some of the placements I made over the last 20+ years. From the lady with no office skills at all, she went perm into an accountants scanning documents. No other agency would offer her any work. Another candidate had hospitality management experience but wanted a 9-5 job, he said he would do anything. I called him and offered him a job stuffing envelopes. He was a brilliant temp. He is now in senior position in education. Some of you will know this story 😂 again no other agency would entertain him because he was a high earner and couldn't see past his previous salary and what was really important to him. Quickest placement goes to Chris Durham ✅ met the client to take the brief day one, mentioned Chris, interview and offer the follwoing day, with a start on Monday.
