While today's Kiwi-Collab session (entirely sugar free I might add) continues to highlight the vast difference of opinions, and experiences (nostalgic & work-related) within our community, we're definitely richer for the knowledge sharing and real talk. We celebrate different perspectives because the one constant in recruitment is that it always depends. Recruitment is an ever changing industry and profession, there will be (sugar) highs, and lows, but we really are stronger together throughout it all. Sure Josh, take 3,000 photos and maybe we'll end up with one we're happy with 😉🤣 There's a saying, "laughter is the sunshine that drives winter from the face", and in NZ we also have the whakataukī (Māori proverb) "Te tiro atu to kanohi ki tairawhiti ana tera whiti te ra kite ataata ka hinga ki muri kia koe" which means "turn your face to the sun and the shadows fall behind you." Despite being another overcast day in Auckland, there's no shortage of energy and spirit within the recruitment and staffing community. Three qualities we need to succeed in the third sector. Increasingly, "Social good" organisations are becoming employers of choice particularly for new entrants to the labour market, due to their potential, positive impact on the places we live in, and the people we are living with. In a world facing unprecedented challenges, third sector careers can be more fulfilling than many "traditional" choices.

Summary: How to stay connected with someone who you only met briefly Ever thought about why you click with some people at work better than others? Gerard Doolin is someone I met over 8 years ago when I worked at Baringa. He was covering the legal team on an interim role and we worked on a couple of contracts together for 2 months before the incumbent in the role returned and Gerard moved on to pastures green. He subsequently moved back to New Zealand but I didn't see him again... until yesterday when we met for coffee and a good old catch up as he happened to be in London. Why was I so keen to meet for coffee? Because Gerard had made an excellent job of staying in touch in the 8 years. He'd regularly supported my posts, sent me occasional messages and interesting articles and I did the same in return. It has always been a pleasure to hear from him and thus it was great to roll back the years. Hopefully it won't be another 8 years until the next coffee.
