It was probably just a matter of time before tennis and pickleball clash..."The U.S. Tennis Association says that 10% of courts in America have been taken over or repainted since the pickleball boom began." Here in Toronto, I've seen a few public tennis courts painted with yellow pickleball lines, so it isn't a takeover or a repainting. Doubling a court for tennis and pickleball is a good use of limited resources, but more importantly it provides an opportunity for pickelball to grow and people to be more active. Now, we just need a professional event or a Major League Pickleball franchise in Canada to really accelerate the sport's growth here. #emergingsport #pickleball #sportbusiness

The turf war between pickleball and tennis is heating up, and the (USTA) United States Tennis Association just announced its casualties. The USTA estimates that at least 10% of tennis courts in the U.S. have been converted for pickleball use. Tennis is hemorrhaging courts at the hands of its young rival, and it isn't surprising - the economics of pickleball are simply more attractive. 🔹 One tennis court serves four players, while one tennis court converted to four pickleball courts serves 16 players 🔹 Clubs can rent out more space, cater to more members, and generate more revenue with just a "few strokes of paint" What makes this situation even more pressing for tennis is the sport’s own revival. The The Wall Street Journal notes that the USTA expects to surpass 24.5 million players this year and reach 35 million by 2035. With both sports experiencing growth, the battle for court space is heating up. As Lew Sherr, CEO of the USTA, points out, "Participation is not zero-sum, but the court space is." It’s clear that both sports are here to stay, but facilities across the country will need to find ways to accommodate the growing demand. Whether it's repurposing existing courts or building new ones, this turf war is far from over. Did you know only 5% of sport media coverage is dedicated to women's sports, zero #women are on the Forbes list of the 50 highest paid athletes ? When they join forces and stand together, women and men can go so much further, for the benefit of everyone. A #leadership challenge, way beyond business as usual.

This is disturbingly screwed up at so many levels -the decision to allow Steven van de Velde, a convicted child rapist, to compete in the Olympic beach volleyball in Paris. This should not be allowed. The Olympics are meant to celebrate the pinnacle of human achievement and sportsmanship, not to provide a platform for individuals with such a dark past. Hearing the boos from the crowd, I felt that this decision undermines the integrity of the Games and sends a terribly wrong message. Openness and honesty are commendable on his part, but that doesn’t give him enough credit to be able to take part here. I don’t buy into the argument that he is sorry, has paid for his crimes, and that we should move on. For me, moving on means he is out of jail, not allowing him to compete in the Olympics. Every abused victim and their families—I can’t begin to guess what and how little they must feel. %**%#** As someone who values fairness and respect, I find it hard to justify Van de Velde's inclusion. This decision feels like a slap in the face to victims and survivors of such horrific crimes. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Dutch Olympic Committee (NOC) need to reconsider their stance. The Olympics should be a safe and inclusive space, free from the shadows of such serious offenses. This decision not only tarnishes the spirit of the Games but also disrespects the very values the Olympics stand for. #IntegrityInSports #JusticeForVictims #OlympicValues #ProtectTheInnocent
