What's your pet peeve digital practice that never goes away? "Click here" language is most definitely mine. It makes me twitch each time I see it. It is: 📊 Bad for SEO- you want Google to associate the link with the right type of content. Telling it the content is "click here" adds no value to your internal or external links. 🚗 Bad for UX- when you can't scan a page (or even an email) and see where it's linking off to, you're less likely to keep reading and even more so to click. Make it easy to see what you're linking to, and what they will get if they click. 👓 Bad for Accessibility- readers telling vision impaired users with site readers the link says "click here" tells them nothing. We knew this was bad practice circa 2005 at least. How does it never leave the cultural zeitgeist? #userexperience #bestpractices

Excited to announce I’ve joined efforts with two former colleagues, Joey Campbell and Anna Roth, as a Co-Founder of Tetra Content. Over the past year, I've partnered with them on most consulting opportunities — from how to create games from local RSS-fed content around college football, to finding new distribution for sites impacted by the latest Google changes, to acquiring and migrating 10-year-old+ digital/print libraries. And together, we’ve brought in expertise in Machine Learning/AI (John Deiner) and Gaming (Jai Smith) — and plan to add more in the coming weeks. The opportunity became clear: Let us cultivate, adapt, and regenerate your legacy library. Brands (Savage Ventures/Vice, SPIN, Outside) are being revived daily and others are left to wither with only glimpses of what could have been via The Wayback Machine https://web.archive.org/. In coming weeks, I'll share more on the clients we've been working with as well as our Buy/Sell marketplace for legacy libraries — everything from Instagram handles and Facebook groups to WordPress VIP sites. It feels right at the exact right time. At Citysearch, we were early adopters of directed user-generated reviews to complement editorial content across 144 local markets. At Demand, we evaluated, bought, and migrated more than 40 niche vertical sites in the first two years. And at BestReviews, we took 300,000+ original product review images from hard drives and put them on the site - creating sustained, incremental traffic from Pinterest and Google Image Search. Plus proved that Demand Media’s Content Channels revenue share model is still healthy via BestReviews/Tribune Co. Interested in any way? Shoot me a direct message and/or send one to [email protected]. https://lnkd.in/gnsqPV9A

Opinionated, thought-provoking, expansive/exhaustive and a great “overall user experience”. “Why do you bury your content? You’ve published some great stuff…” Now, that was an interesting (and challenging) comment put to us a couple of months ago. So we thought about it. It’s true. We do have some very good content and while we don’t consciously “bury” it, we probably don’t do enough to get it to a wider readership or help people find it. Over 800 blogs, news stories, guides, opinion pieces and insights articles. ‘Buried.’ Not any more. We had a good look at our content, how it could be better organised and presented, how we could highlight popular articles and pertinent how-to guides and we brought it all under one content umbrella: The Spin. News stories, insights, interviews, blogs, reviews and guides are now all carefully curated and categorised under The Spin. What’s more, we’ll point readers in the direction of top featured content, readers’ favourite articles and the most widely read stories. And so far, it’s working: "The overall user experience is great now. You've got even more good stuff than I first thought! Navigating through The Spin is easy and I find the topics and articles I’m interested in quickly.” With new content published just about five days a week, please take a look and let us know what you think. Hot news for content creators! Runway just launched a game-changing horizontal video generation feature. But here’s the kicker: it’s not just about cool tech. It’s about how we adapt our strategies to leverage it. Here’s a quick guide to harnessing this new tool: 1. **Choose your mode:** Select the Gen-3 Alpha Turbo Mode. 2. **Pick your visual source:** You can either select an image or write a prompt. 3. **Configure settings:** Opt for horizontal 768x1028 for the best display. 4. **Generate your video:** Hit the button and watch your ideas come to life! This feature opens a world of possibilities for your content. Whether you’re creating ads, tutorials, or brand stories, horizontal videos can enhance engagement significantly. People are consuming more vertical content, yet horizontal videos still dominate platforms like YouTube and Facebook. So, how do you plan to use this feature? The way you respond could shape the future of your content strategy. Let’s spark that conversation! If you're early to adopt this technology, your insights could inspire others. Share your ideas below and let’s keep pushing the boundaries of what we can create! ---- Follow me for AI insights, hit the bell for updates, and share to spread the word! If you search for "user onboarding" on YouTube, my face (and dog's pic) ranks first on the results page! In the last year, Appcues' YouTube had over 70K views and 2.7K watch hours across 91 published videos. If you're into product growth, user onboarding, and UX, you should check them out! I'm bullish on video content. I have yet to find an AI tool that can create authentic and realistic videos of a person on screen (maybe someday). By the way, my video editor, who has worked on some videos for Appcues and Marketing Powerups, is looking for more clients. He specializes in social, vertical, and YouTuber-style videos. Happy to make an intro!

User control of autoplay can alter awareness of online video 'rabbit holes' https://lnkd.in/d7jKG3vM A new study suggests that giving users control over the interface feature of autoplay can help them realize that they are going down a rabbit hole. The work has implications for responsibly designing online content viewing platforms and algorithms, as well as helping users better recognize extreme content.
