𝗛𝗼𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗙-𝟯𝟱 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗔𝗺𝗶𝗱 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗙𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 🛩️ Exciting times ahead for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program! With the proposed House policy bill aiming to trim down purchases for fiscal 2025, it's evident that lawmakers are taking a strategic approach towards ensuring the effectiveness of this fifth-generation aircraft. This move highlights a concerted effort to address lingering issues with the program and its manufacturer, Lockheed Martin, emphasizing the importance of delivering high-quality, fully functional jets to our military forces. The decision to slash initial purchases and withhold deliveries until key problems are rectified shows a commitment to long-term success. By reinvesting saved funds into resolving software glitches and radar concerns, the focus shifts towards enhancing the overall performance and reliability of the F-35 fleet. Moreover, this approach fosters a collaborative environment between government entities and defense contractors, paving the way for more streamlined acquisition strategies and smoother production processes. As we navigate through these challenges, it's crucial to remember the ultimate goal: equipping our armed forces with cutting-edge technology that ensures national security. By addressing the issues head-on and leveraging recommendations from operational evaluations, we can accelerate the timeline for delivering top-notch F-35 capabilities to our warfighters. 📰 The head of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program has approved a plan to accept the newest jets with a partial version of its latest software, paving the way for deliveries to resume after a year-long pause. Lt. Gen. Mike Schmidt, the F-35 program executive officer, on July 3 decided to move forward with the plan to accept jets with a “truncated” version of its Technology Refresh 3, or TR-3, software, the Joint Program Office said in an email. This decision was made after consulting with the military services, pilots, maintainers, industry, and the executive steering board that oversees the F-35, the JPO said. TR-3 includes upgrades to the F-35′s displays, computer memory and processing power that are needed for a more expansive modernization known as Block 4, which will include the ability to carry more weapons. 🔹 Shocking Cancellation: In February, the US Army announced the cancellation of the Future Attack and Reconnaissance Aircraft programme, a significant blow to Sikorsky which had invested in developing a next-generation aircraft to replace the UH-60 Blackhawk. 🔹 Downsizing: As a result, Sikorsky is reducing its workforce in Connecticut and elsewhere. Lockheed Martin, the parent company, said the layoffs will represent less than one percent of its total workforce of more than 100,000 employees nationwide. The layoffs will primarily affect Sikorsky's Stratford headquarters, with about 400 jobs lost in the state. 🔹 Sales Continue: Despite the cancellation of the programme, Sikorsky continues to sell various versions of the Black Hawk to the US military and armed forces around the world. Most recently, on 5 April, Lockheed Martin announced that Greece plans to purchase 35 Black Hawks. . . #westfaironline #weschester #mywestchester #westchesternyeats #westchestercountyny #westchesterny #westchesternewyork #westchesterrealestate #westchester #orangecountyny #westchesterlife #westchestereats #westchesterfood #whiteplains #westchestercounty #whiteplainsny #westchesternymoms #newsday #newsflash #newsroom #todaysnews #todaynews #nationalnews #newsheadlines #latestnewstoday #breakingnewstoday

👮♂️🛩🚢👩🔧✅️ #Safety and #Quality are the pillars of #aerospace industry, we all need to keep the hard work to ensure them. "Metal shavings in contaminated fuel, incorrectly assembled parts, and a plastic scraper protruding from a wing fold were among the faults discovered in 5 new #F35C #JointStrikeFighters delivered to a United States Marine Corps #fighter squadron in California in 2023, according to a memo obtained by Defense News. #MarineFighterAttack #Squadron311, or #VMFA311, at #MarineCorps Air Station #Miramar in San Diego discovered an array of problems with its Lockheed Martin -made #F35's that ultimately required more than 700 hours of work to fix and wasted more than 169,000 pounds of fuel, the Jan. 7 memo said. The memo was written by VMFA-311 commander Lt. Col. Michael Fisher, who described a pattern of “persistent aircraft delivery discrepancies and premature component failures.” Fisher’s memo was approved by Col. William Mitchell, commander of Marine Aircraft Group 11. In a statement to #DefenseNews, #LockheedMartin said it is working closely with the Marine Corps, the government’s F-35 Joint Program Office and the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) to address concerns raised in the memo. “We take pride in the quality of the #aircraft we deliver to customers around the world and assess all reported customer feedback on production quality and parts reliability,” the company’s statement said." https://lnkd.in/dRUU5-GH #Defence #JPO #DCMA #USMarineCorps #MarineAttack #Squadron311 #AV8 #Harrier #NextGenFighter #FOD

SR-72! Wow! I was (& am) a huge fan of the SR-71 (Blackbird). But who doesn't love a good sequel. Also a tip of the hat to the Skunk Works, with all of these Boeing shenanigans lately, it's great to see that leading edge American Engineering is still most definitely a thing. Rock on 'Son of Blackbird'! If I can see it, for real, in 2025 I will. Note: SR-71 - mach 3.3 (mostly titanium) SR-72 - mach 5+ maybe mach 6! if Lockheed-Martin & Aerodyne can develop advanced carbon based refractory materials that are simultaneously light enough, strong enough, and cheap enough (last I checked, that's some difficult materials science, right at the frontier). #engineering #aeronautics #leadingedge #cuttingedge #bleedingedge #tech #military #fast #sofast #incrediblyfast #beyondfast https://lnkd.in/emfYEaXh

🔲 F1000 Media: New Kelly Ortberg Shakes Up Boeing’s Defense Division Amid Cost Overruns and Strikes. 🔳 Boeing has announced a leadership change with the departure of Theodore Colbert III CEO of its Defense, Space & Security division. This marks the first major move by Boeing’s newly appointed CEO, Kelly Ortberg, who took the helm in August 2024. Colbert’s departure comes as Boeing faces serious financial strain, with the defense division accumulating billions in cost overruns on contracts like the KC-46 aerial tanker and the Air Force One replacements, dragging down earnings with losses approaching $1 billion. 🔳 Ortberg stressed that restoring customer trust and improving operational execution are now top priorities, as Pentagon leaders have voiced concerns about Boeing’s continued delays. In addition to these financial issues, Boeing is navigating a significant worker strike involving over 32,000 employees, further complicating Ortberg's efforts to stabilize the company. The leadership shift signals Ortberg’s commitment to turning around Boeing’s defense business while addressing labor tensions and supply chain disruptions. 🔳 Despite these challenges, Boeing received a notable boost with an order for 50 737 MAX jets from China Development Bank Financial Leasing, demonstrating that demand for Boeing’s commercial aircraft remains strong. As Ortberg makes hard decisions to reposition the company, Boeing aims to regain its footing in both the defense and commercial aerospace markets. #Boeing #KellyOrtberg #LeadershipChange #F1000Media #CostOverruns #DefenseDivision #LaborStrikes #Aerospace #OperationalExcellence #737MAX

I tire of reading stories on the internet bemoaning the F-35's apparent lack of maneuverability as compared to the F-15, F-16 and F-22. To me these narratives show a lack of historical context by the authors as to origins of the F-35 which was originally known as the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF). Once upon a time the DoD’s plan was to field two distinct stealth aircraft; the Advanced Tactical Fighter (ATF) which would provide air superiority while the JSF provided strike capability. The ATF became the F-22 which was originally planned to number over 800 aircraft but over time was reduced to just under 200 aircraft; not nearly enough to replace the existing F-15s. With the end of F-22 production, the JSF winning F-35 remained the sole remaining stealth fighter in production. By necessity the DoD was forced to morph an aircraft originally designed primarily for strike into a multi-role fighter. To radically redesign the airframe for higher energy maneuverability was not possible at that point, so ‘bleeding-edge’ sensor fusion and advanced weapons became the answer. The result is an aircraft with good maneuverability with world-leading sensor fusion capabilities. The jury is still out on whether those combined capabilities will effectively negate the maneuverability advantages of adversary aircraft in future conflicts. Let’s hope with the new NGAD program the US does produce in numbers the air superiority partner originally planned for the JSF/F-35.
