❓ Have you ever wanted a small legend based on different Measures?   This was a little bit challenging.   It's basically tip number 5 in phdata's "Enhancing Tables in Tableau".   ✔It's a dual axis chart of 2 continuous constants to get the spacing right (0.1 and 0.05). You may need different values. ✔One is set to circle ✔The other Waterfall - that was the difference that made the difference in getting the "label" not to overlap in a small space. ✔Lastly, each of the 5 measures also has Custom Number format with a specific prefix. ✔Font is set Courier New for equal spacing.   It took me longer than I care to admit to really figure out what was going on in Luke Stanke's example, but it eventually clicked.   🏗→🧠 Build to Learn!   💭🚶♀️🚶♂️ Follow for more.   #tableau #data #analytics #VizoftheRay

When my LOVE of data visualization meets applied statistics... Look at this #Tableau Viz of the Day! Great job to the author Chimdi Nwosu 👏 ➡️ I love that the color is only reserved for the scatter plot. ➡️ I love how the different KPI "tiles" are distinguished by the underlined header for each KPI, as well the white space between the "tiles." ➡️ I love how BIG the BIG Aggregate Numbers are!! ➡️ I love that there is a "FINDING" under the KPI header - sometimes this is tough to do in #highereducation when you're data is being filtered by college/school and the finding may change - but subheaders are a great fit for findings. ➡️ I love the SCATTERPLOTS! Small charts partnered with A BAN is so vital, because it adds context to the BAN - whereas a solo BAN is just a big ole number not offering too much. My friend, Steve Wexler, has been sharing the importance of context around a BAN recently and I couldn’t agree more. 🤔 Did you know that Tableau has no native way to move a reference line to the background?   😲 This is a bit surprising to me.   🔎 Consider bullet charts. They are very popular.   If you want to label the bar, no matter where you put the label, the value *could* be overlapped by the reference line.   That is not good.   I went with the simple solution (which is actually not pictured here): ✔ Adjust line opacity to 50% ✔ Darken the font of the bar label   There are other hacks out there involving dual axis. 🤔 Have you noticed that when you select marks in a Tableau view, your reference lines recalculate if they are not constants?   😲 It's actually an optional feature!   ⌛ I have to admit, if this was mentioned in my initial training, I missed it… for quite a while.   Then I rediscovered it.   You can find it at the bottom of the Edit Reference Line form.   Just uncheck "Show recalculated line for highlighted or selected data points"   (I'm curious why they used "data points" instead of "marks"?)   🙈 I tend to have a bit of situational blindness, so if I'm not actively looking for something, I easily overlook it, and that's why I forgot about that checkbox.   Anyway, while I'm not a frequent user of reference lines, when I do use them, I usually prefer that they don’t recalculate.   How about you?
