Over and out on Beyond Meat. Cows likely aren't happy about this, but the enthusiasm over meat substitutes is waning so much so that Carl’s Jr. and Del Taco are no longer offering the products. Faux meat isn't necessarily what's for dinner, but real meat seasoned with gas emissions sounds about right. Lots of pomp, but the circumstances have changed. Just last year, fast food chains made headlines featuring plant-based meat items on their menus. Well, some chains are scrambling faster than a toddler at a BBQ buffet to revamp menus and move away from faux meat. In fact, more chains are making peace with good old fashioned vegetables and going back to old school meat patties. The scale back isn't necessarily a bovine surprise. A 2022 report found that roughly 10% of consumers tried a faux meat product at a restaurant, but most stopped at one. That's not exactly a strong endorsement. The problem is meat substitutes can often be high in fat, salt and calories, not to mention even slightly more expensive. Be free, go meat-free. Just because people are skipping Beyond Burgers doesn't mean they aren't interested in vegetarian options. Vegan and gluten-free are still in, as are whole vegetables.
