I recently interviewed for the BTSA role at ZS, and the process was engaging, with a mix of foundational and advanced #SQL questions along with a real-world case study. I walked away with new insights that I’d like to share with others preparing for similar roles. Here's how it goes:
1. Introduction Round
- I elaborated on my background, sharing insights from my college projects and my work experience at WNS, where I focused on Big Data & how the journey has fueled my passion for data engineering and analytics.
2. SQL Basics: Joins
- Tackled foundational questions on calculating the maximum and minimum number of rows returned using different join types (INNER, OUTER, and CROSS JOIN). This exercise required a clear understanding of join mechanics and their effects on output row counts.
3. Advanced SQL – Date-Based Calculation
- I worked through queries involving date functions to calculate the number of days taken to reach a specific sales target. This round emphasized the importance of handling time-based data in SQL, especially for business metrics.
4. Case Study: Food Delivery Startup
- The final round was a case study simulating a Swiggy/Zomato-style startup, focused on real-world data metrics. Tasks included calculating average sales per order, tracking customer movement across cities, and managing delivery times. It underscored how SQL skills can translate into actionable business insights for customer engagement and operational efficiency.
