Exciting discovery! New research reveals how range expansion in Pseudomonas aeruginosa colonies leads to the emergence of cheaters, disrupting spatial patterns and reducing population fitness. Interestingly, the study found that spatially extended systems are more vulnerable to invading cheaters due to heightened cooperation levels. This collapse of cooperation during microbial range expansion underscores the critical role of spatial dynamics. Check out the full study for insights into microbial behavior! https://lnkd.in/ezEvKAy8 #MicrobialEcology #EvolutionaryBiology #PopulationDynamics #ScienceResearch #Microbiology #Cooperation #SpatialDynamics #Cheaters #ResearchInsights

Zygote project is divided into four research areas, and it's time to introduce you to Elisabeth Kommisrud and... Research Area 4: Improved and New Developments in Gamete and Embryo Preservation Technologies! Our team is focused on improving existing methods and developing new approaches for preserving reproductive cells and embryos across various species, including cattle, pigs, Arctic char, and others. Key focus areas: 1. Identifying applicable biomarkers for cryoinjury 2. Evaluating cryopreserved gametes and embryos (in vitro & in vivo) 3. Developing innovative fresh/liquid preservation and cryopreservation techniques We're fostering transdisciplinary collaboration between scientific (Oslo University Hospital, OsloMet – Oslo Metropolitan University, Simula Metropolitan Center for Digital Engineering, SINTEF, SLU - Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences) and industry partners (Geno SA, Norsvin, SpermVital AS, Klosser Innovasjon) to ensure real-world applicability and relevance.
