Doing hard things is really easy when the right people are onboard. Don’t compromise. If you’re hiring, wait a few more months. If you’re reviewing performance, don’t let context justify missed expectations. When you do, you make your life harder and your team mediocre. It costs you a lot in the long run. Easy choices, hard life. Hard decisions, easy life.

Aside from my feet barely touching the ground in the last four weeks, I’ve been somewhat reluctant to update my title on LinkedIn given how tough the NZ job market is right now. I was recently promoted into the role of Talent Acquisition Manager here at 2degrees and stepping into this position at a time when so many people and businesses are navigating uncertainty, feels both challenging and meaningful. Prior to taking up the promotion, I spent a few weeks travelling around Borneo and was in complete awe of how resilient our kids were (not to mention us parents 😅). From hours spent hiking in rainforests (in 32-degree heat, 90% humidity, dangerous animals lurking around every corner), ordering unknown foods at street markets, and trying their hand at a foreign language – I was super proud of my intrepid little explorers. Travel teaches us to adapt, laugh at the unexpected, and keep moving forward. And to be honest, that’s not so different from the resilience needed in a tough job market. Laugh a little, focus on what you can control and remember every experience adds to your journey. Kia kaha – you’re more resilient than you think. 💪 Thanks to all who have supported me - I’ll continue to support candidates and our leaders with honesty and empathy. Super excited to be leading the team and exploring the next chapter of Talent Acquisition at 2degrees! 🚀 #itstimeforsomethingdifferent #resilience #jobsearchtips

All good stories come to an end. Sometimes the end is not exactly what we had in mind. That's what happened to allplants | B Corp™. On Friday 22nd November, the company went into administration, and 60 incredibly talented people were made redundant. My journey with allplants | B Corp™ began in 2019, just before the pandemic. The company's growth was remarkable, so intense that after a few 24-hour- straight shifts, I realised that it was sustainable for my single life but not for a balanced lifestyle. Very single and a bit burnt out, I left the company in the spring of 2021. Three years, two jobs, and an engagement later, there was an opportunity to return to allplants. After a conversation with ✌️🌱 Jonathan Petrides, I was sold! The company had shifted from a "growth at all costs" strategy to a more measured "pay as you grow" approach. Investments were precise, cost management was strategic. It seemed like the perfect plan. Unfortunately, this story doesn't have the happy ending we hoped for. Yet, I'm filled with gratitude. I'm thankful for the invaluable lessons, the incredible experiences, and the amazing people I had the privilege to work alongside. We worked tirelessly, leaving nothing on the table, and I'm proud of this. To all my allplants | B Corp™ teammates: now it is really tough, but your talent is extraordinary, and I have no doubt each of you will land incredible opportunities. If anyone knows of interesting roles in food and beverage operations and production in London, I would be grateful to hear about them. Thanks #JobSearch #FoodAndBeverage #Careers #Networking

Supporting Monal Restaurant’s 700 Employees After Recent Layoffs On August 6, 2024, Monal Restaurant made the difficult decision to lay off 700 dedicated employees due to unforeseen circumstances. While this news is heartbreaking, it's important to remember that these individuals are talented professionals with a wealth of experience in the hospitality industry. In an effort to support these employees during this transition, Monal Management is taking proactive steps to assist them in finding new opportunities. We are in the process of compiling and publishing a list of these employees, complete with their roles and contact information, so that other restaurants and hospitality businesses can directly connect with them. This list will serve as a bridge to new opportunities for these talented individuals, helping them continue their careers in the industry they are passionate about. We encourage all employers in the hospitality sector to review this list once it's available and consider hiring from this pool of skilled professionals. Together, we can help ensure that these employees find new roles quickly and continue to thrive in their careers. #HospitalityIndustry #EmployeeSupport #Layoffs #MonalRestaurant #CareerOpportunities #Hiring #JobSearch #TalentAcquisition

I have been working on talent aquisition for my organization for the past month I did an analysis of my current team and found one commonality among all of them (including myself)...we are all former food and bev workers. Small company but 100% of people. Isn't that crazy? Whether it was at a bustling restaurant, a gas station deli, or a popular food chain, each of us has walked the path of serving others and learning invaluable skills along the way. Here are some key skills we've all gained from the food and bev world that are essential in any industry: • Customer Service Excellence: Understanding and anticipating customer needs is crucial, no matter the field. • Time Management: Handling multiple tables or tasks at once honed our ability to prioritize and manage time efficiently. • Communication: Clear and effective communication with customers and team members is the cornerstone of successful interactions. • Teamwork: Working in a fast-paced environment taught us the value of collaboration and supporting one another. • Problem-Solving: Finding quick solutions to unexpected challenges prepared us to think on our feet. My first teenage job as a deli worker at Wawa, Inc. taught me the skills that have been the foundation of my career success. I truly believe that. It made me a master of multitasking. 😂 To anyone currently working in the food and beverage industry or waiting tables to put yourself through college, know that the skills you're developing are incredibly valuable and transferable to any career path you choose. 💪 #keyskills #serveothers #timemanagement

Ever wondered how others see you? 🧠 ⬇️⬇️⬇️ I recently took a leap and asked my friends and family to describe me in one word. Their responses? "Nice" and "helpful."🤷♂️ At first, I thought, "Well, that's lovely... but a bit boring, isn't it?" Little did I know that these seemingly simple traits would open doors I never imagined.😊 You see, being nice and helpful isn't just about making others feel good (though that's brilliant too). It's about building genuine connections and trust. And sometimes, those connections lead to unexpected opportunities!👌 Case in point: Aldi. Yes, the supermarket chain! My reputation for being helpful caught the attention of someone in their organisation, and before I knew it, I was embarking on an exciting new career journey. It's funny how life works, isn't it? The very qualities we might underestimate in ourselves can be the ones that propel us forward.🚀 So, here's a thought for you: What was the moment that made you find your motivation? Was it a compliment, an opportunity, or perhaps a realisation about your own strengths? 🧐 Share your story in the comments! Let's celebrate the power of kindness and how it can shape our careers in the most unexpected ways. #ALDITechfluencer #Growth #Reprogramretail #Bekind
