When do you transition from a mid-level or junior dev to a senior developer? That’s a question that often lingers in our minds during those stages. For me, the turning point is when you’re ready to listen to others and can communicate effectively—that’s when you start embodying the qualities of a senior developer. And trust me, age is not a factor. Of course, there’s more to it than that—experience, technical depth, mentorship—but what are your thoughts? Besides going through lots of codebases, what else has helped you in your journey? Let’s discuss! 👇 #developer #leadership #growth #techcommunity

Important technical leadership skill: Being Glue. Tanya tells a story of someone whose career is hurt by glue work. It's vital to technical leadership, but can be risky if you find yourself in this role too early in your career. You are moving the company forward significantly, but because your code metrics aren't adding up while you are busy addressing major structural issues, you end up at the bottom of the 'performance evaluations'. When evaluation time comes, you take a significant hit to your morale because you are the one receiving a 'performance improvement plan' for the code you didn't write while you were busy. This is why it is important to understand how you are being measured as an engineer, and for leadership to understand the whole concept of glue work and why a junior engineer may end up drawn into fixing problems beyond merging code. https://lnkd.in/gcMHruTB #startup #cto #leadership #fullstackengineering #softwareengineering

Lead Quality Assurance Engineer | Certified Scrum Master | JIRA Administrator | Salesforce | Selenium WebDriver | Playwright | Java | Typescript
🚀 Recently, during our company's acquisition, I was interviewed by an IT Director from the parent company. In our discussion, he mentioned that his team relies entirely on bots for quality activities, including testing—no or minimal human intervention needed. Later, I discovered that there’s no established development process within that team; developers push code directly to production without proper checks. This inevitably affects end users, leading to significant quality issues. What stood out to me was the clear gap in understanding the fundamentals of the software development lifecycle. It raises a crucial question: how can someone with such limited knowledge hold a significant IT leadership position in a large organization? It’s disheartening to see so many qualified candidates in the job market while such roles are filled without careful consideration. Let’s push for better practices and more informed leadership in our IT industry! 💡 #SoftwareDevelopment #Leadership #QualityAssurance #TechIndustry

Most of the time engineering leader struggle to explain how their day looks and what do they do day to day Here is what you should be doing 1. Spend first 30 mins to make sure your applications are doing good as they are expected 2. Aging issues, see for how long issues continue to be in "Not Solved"... these are pebble in the shoe. 3. Take the stock of progress without "disturbing" your team, look into the story updates, dev velocity, code churn, defect density, process deviation 4. Own complex tech issues, do pair code review, suggest architecture changes, optimise cost, POC for new technologies {pick one per day} 5. Find what is being done repeatedly. 6. At least have one 1-O-1 meeting. Make sure it is about him not about you or company or your boss. 7. Very very important, unblocking your developers, engineers, stakeholders. And once in a while keep knowing about direction in which company is investing. #engineeringleadership #cto #leadership #engineeringmanager
