As we observe #Day 2 of the #16Days of #Activism on Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (#VAWG), we highlight the work of #AEGIS member Dr Karen Middleton, Co-authored by Shanjita Shawrin, Dr Judith Fletcher-Brown and Prof Sarah Turnbull which explores the pervasive issue of #acid #assaults on women in #India, where over 1,000 cases are reported annually. Their research reveals that #advertising can play a pivotal role in transforming these harmful cultural narratives. It emphasises how advertising campaigns and influencers can help #delegitimise #acid #assaults and reduce the #stigmatisation of survivors. Through using #homophily (when people identify their own similarity to others), advertising campaigns can create a sense of shared experience and solidarity, encouraging people to engage in meaningful dialogue about the issue. Through developing #collective #action and awareness in this way, the societal structures that enable this violence can be dismantled, and we can create a future where acid assaults are no longer tolerated and every #woman can live #free from #fear and #violence. ⚠️ Important reminder for International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples: Indigenous women face significantly higher rates of sexual violence, domestic violence, and murder than non-indigenous women. Historically, Indigenous women were raped and abused by settlers and soldiers. These acts of violence were not random or one-off. The systemic brutalization of native women was and still is a deliberate tool of conquest and colonization. The attitudes towards Indigenous peoples that result in human rights abuses continue to be present today and contribute to the: ▶️ high rates of violence perpetrated against Indigenous women ▶️ shielding of attackers from justice Source: National Institute of Justice and National Indigenous Women's Resource Center . #Decolonize #DecolonizeHistory #MMIWActionNow #NoMoreStolenSisters #IndigenousLivesMatter #Intersectionality #IndigenousWomen

Men who inflict gender-based violence don’t just appear out of nowhere; they are often the men we trust, the ones we never suspect. These perpetrators are typically embedded in our communities, families, and workplaces, operating under the guise of respectability. Their behavior is shaped by socialization that normalizes dominance and entitlement over others, particularly women. The cycle of violence is often fuelled by entitlement, control, and a lack of accountability. Challenging this culture means recognizing that GBV can be perpetrated by those closest to us and addressing the root causes in everyday attitudes and behaviors. #toxicmasculinity #patriarchy #societalnorms #gendernorms #genderinequality #mentalhealth #genderbasedviolence #genderbasedviolenceawareness #genderviolence #rapeculture #noexcuse #16days #16daysofactivism #16daysofactivismagainstgenderbasedviolence #genderequality #humanrights #socialjustice #socialinclusion #ActNow #India

The Nirbhaya case, which began in 2012, took seven years to reach a final verdict. The Unnao case’s conviction came only in 2019. These delays show how time itself can be a weapon against survivors. With over 3,00,000 gender violence cases pending, it's clear: the system needs urgent reform. How can India speed up justice for survivors? Share your thoughts in the comments. #BetterIndiaForWomen #Navratri2024 #GenderEquality #WomensSafety #WomenRights #SexualHarassment [Sexual harassment, social justice, Women’s safety, Better India For Women]

According to WHO over a quarter of women aged 15–49 years who have been in a relationship have been subjected to physical and/or sexual violence by their intimate partner at least once in their lifetime (since age 15). The prevalence estimates of lifetime intimate partner violence range from 20% in the Western Pacific, 22% in high-income countries and Europe and 25% in the WHO Regions of the Americas to 33% in the WHO African region, 31% in the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region, and 33% in the WHO South-East Asia region. FEMINAZIS DON'T DESERVE SUCH A NICE TREATMENT!! IF BEATING IS ALWAYS BAD ON THE PART OF A MALE, IT IS ALWAYS BAD ON THE PART OF A FEMALE AS WELL!! FEMINAZI EMPOWERMENT SHOULD BE DISCOURAGED!! MISANDRY AND GYNOCENTRISM SHOULD BE DISCOURAGED!! OPPRESSION OF THE MALES SHOULD BE DISCOURAGED!! ALL THE LAWS AND RULES OUGHT TO BE GENDER NEUTRAL!! GIVING SPECIAL PRIVILEGES TO THE FEMALES IS NEVER JUSTIFIED, JUST LIKE HOW GIVING SPECIAL PRIVILEGES TO THE MALES IS NEVER JUSTIFIED!! https://lnkd.in/dguaJ7N4
