Our licensing team made the first contribution to IAM SEP hub from industry perspective, with Cheng Yu and Na Wei being the key authors. At Xiaomi, the focus has always been on our users, and when looking at SEP licensing matters, there is no exception. I always encourage the team to express our opinions publicly through contribution like this or speaking at IPBC events. The industry needs more perspectives. There is only one goal we are serving here - to make the IP ecosystem more balanced and sustainable.
Here's the article Cheng Yu and I wrote for SEP hub on IAM. We intended to bring a new perspective into SEP/FRAND negotiations. Sometimes if you look at some of the dispute points through the consumer's lens, you'll come to better workable solutions. Hope you enjoy reading it. Good point to keep the user in the focus. Let us see, how the new SEP business unit at the EUIPO will be able to achieve this goal!
Ran Xu - "I always encourage the team to express our opinions publicly through contribution like this or speaking at IPBC events. The industry needs more perspectives." I agree 100% and I applaud Xiaomi Technology and Na Wei for engaging in these important discussions. The absence of implementers (and SEP holders expressing the views of implementers) at SEP conferences has been disappointing. I look forward to your continued participation.
