This collaboration between Railway Industry Association members CrossTech and Hitachi Rail, working with Network Rail and London North Eastern Railway showcases how clients and the supply chain can come together to deploy innovative solutions for mutual benefit. Currently, they are trialing cutting-edge digital asset monitoring technology to observe the natural environment and track conditions, including vegetation and embankments. Real-time monitoring of these areas not only enhances safety but also aids in detecting potential hazards such as overhanging trees, invasive species, leaves on the track, and embankment subsidence, which could otherwise lead to harm or delays. According to Network Rail, vegetation-related incidents alone cost up to £3 million annually in the Southern region. This initiative is a significant step towards mitigating such risks and improving overall operational efficiency in the railway industry. #unlockinginnovation

Kane County continues to build on its early adoption of sustainable initiatives by unveling its newest public EV charger located at the Kane County Division of Transportation (KDOT) at 41W011 Burlington Rd in Campton Hills. This marks the fourth public charger installed in the county. Kane County was one of the first to establish EV infrastructure, introducing an Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure Ordinance in 2011 and installing its first charger in 2012. The county has continued to adopt EV-ready policies to reduce "range anxiety" and promote cleaner transportation. The county's fleet now includes four Ford E-Transit electric vans, hybrid cars, and Chevy Volts, reflecting its strategy to integrate more eco-friendly vehicles. The new charger will serve both the public and the county's fleet. Kane County recently completed the EV Readiness Program in partnership with the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus, earning a Silver award for its efforts. Kane County also took advantage of the ComEd Fleet Assessment to better understand the needs of its building management fleet and optimize the transition to electric vehicles. The County benefited from ComEd's EV rebates for two of its vehicles and anticipates saving approximately $10,000 through the ComEd Make Ready Rebate program, which helped offset the costs of the newly installed charger. The installation of a fourth public EV charger aligns with national programs like the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Program and the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Discretionary Grant Program, which have expanded EV charging infrastructure nationwide. #whykane #evready #infrastructure
