"You don't have a prioritization problem, you have a strategy one" The first question you should be asking yourself when it comes to prioritization is: Does this align to our strategy? Without a strategy, prioritization becomes very hard. Because ideas are cheap. You can just about rationalize any idea as something we _should_ do. Without a strategy you end up with a very long list of ideas and no nothing to prioritize them against. When places view this as a prioritisation problem this is when they resort to prioritisation by spreadsheets with complex formulas. So get your strategy first before you start to prioritize. 📺 I did a live talk on this, you can watch the recording here 👉 https://lnkd.in/g9W-VNyH

Thanks Ant Murphy for put this so simple and direct. I couldn't agree more with you, in fact this is one of my very first question when the teams, that I've worked with, ask me: where do we start? when they have a tons of backlog items waiting to be developed and delivered to their customers. #productmanagement #agileproductmanagement #productowner #agileleadership

Ever feel like your projects or systems are a whirlwind of moving parts, leaving you wondering where to start? I’ve learned that the key to simplifying chaos lies in three straightforward principles: 1️⃣ 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐁𝐢𝐠 𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: Zoom out and identify the core goals of the project. Understanding the “why” helps prioritize the “how.” 2️⃣ 𝐂𝐡𝐮𝐧𝐤 𝐈𝐭 𝐃𝐨𝐰𝐧:: Break complex projects into smaller, manageable tasks. Think of it like a puzzle—one piece at a time gets you closer to the full picture. 3️⃣ 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝟑𝐃 𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞—𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐞, 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐳𝐞, 𝐃𝐨: - Delegate tasks that don’t need your direct attention. - Digitize processes to save time and reduce manual work. - Do the tasks that only you can handle with full focus. Remember, chaos isn’t the enemy—it’s the starting point for creativity and solutions. The right systems can transform it into seamless efficiency. Four powerful models to help you make good decisions... 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗶𝘅 - Prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance. - Important & Urgent: Say YES to these tasks. - Important but Not Urgent: Schedule for later. - Not Important but Urgent: Delegate. - Not Important & Not Urgent: Say NO. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 80/20 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲 - Maximize efficiency by focusing on tasks that yield the most impact. - Identify tasks that require 20% effort but drive 80% output. - Focus on these tasks for the best results. - Say NO to tasks not driving 80% output. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 2 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲 - Take immediate action on quick tasks. - Break down complex tasks into 2-minute chunks. - Say NO to tasks that can't be done within 2 minutes. 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗕𝘂𝗳𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘁'𝘀 25/5 𝗥𝘂𝗹𝗲 - Focus on your most important goals. - Write down your top 25 projects. - Rank them by importance. - Select the top 5. - Say NO to the other 20. Which model resonates most with you?
