♀ 💜 #InternationalWomensDay2024 ♀ 💜UN Secretary-General Guterres on International Women's Day 2024: "If we want to overcome patriarchy, funds must flow and I would add: Action must follow. ♀ 💜The pace of equality must be accelerated worldwide. At the current rate, it will take another 300 years before men and women have equal rights. ♀ 💜In Germany, too, we are still a long way from achieving full equality and gender parity. ♀ 💜Here, too, women are affected by violence in high percentages, an are far more victims than culprits. ♀ 💜Women in Germany earn 18% less than men and in Bavaria the figure is as high as 21%  ♀ 💜Women are still underrepresented in the Bundestag, in decision-making bodies and in management positions. ♀ 💜I am proud of the fact that 8 women sit on our 14-member Supervisory Board and that we have a 48% quota of women in leading positions at the Olympic Park. ♀ 💜, there is still a lot to do in the Olympic Park and in the sports and events business. In order to achieve equality, we must not only promote and support women, but also motivate men to take parental leave, work part-time and work from home in order to distribute care work more fairly. ♀ 💜In management positions, both women and men must work towards equal representation in decision-making bodies. ♀ 💜, we all benefit from a gender-equal (working) world. Let's try, at least in Germany and in our companies, to ensure that it doesn't take 300 years to achieve this goal, but that we reach it by 2030 at the very latest. How can we come together amidst the various ongoing crises?   It has been a lot. The seemingly endless string of crises has taken its toll and left its mark on our (collective) psyches. We have become polarized and retracted into our personal bubbles. My colleagues at rheingold Institut Cologne have conducted various studies on these mind shifts and the state of German confidence and optimism, most recently in the context of the protests against the AfD, a German radical right-wing party. People found some relief and unity by channeling their frustrations in protests and re-experiencing some impact. I think about this a lot and what happens in Germany is just one of the many international examples. Some food for thought: 💡 Experienced unity for or against a certain topic seems to help appreciate diversity and humanity in unrelated differences 💡 Activism requires leaving the personal bubble and typically overcoming a threshold but re-establishes lost connection and has a rewarding snowball effect 💡 Despite usually unmeasurable impacts, mobilizing *feels* mind shifting and inspiring within oneself AND others 💡 Topic-triggered wake-up calls empower beyond the original trigger and help escape some generalized lethargy For my German speaking peeps, see a positive example for media supported activation below. Performance needs to be valued

#RollBack #GenderJustice It‘s a global public call for a systemic Roll Back to reject Gender Justice, #Feminism, criminal prosecution of GBV perpetrators. Trumps election massively encourages and legitimises the submission of women and the use of all kinds of violence - including structural violence - against women. It signals that the withholding and rejection of the rights and dignity of half of the world‘s population is alright even in - so-called - democracies. To stand up for women‘s rights is now an obligation not only for Gender Justice and women’s rights activists! All who want to defend democracy and human rights: wake up and stand up for women‘s rights and dignity! Stop the Roll Back, defend the space for women in the public, in politics, in culture, in churches/ religious communities!

6-9 June European Elections. Most people in Europe I guess do not see the imminent danger from pro-russian fascists and populists predicted seismic power gains in the upcoming elections. We should talk much more about this! Security for Europe and Ukraine, Protection of our failing Nature and Climate and Democrcy are all in danger! In the background their is a information hyber attack going on from, at least from Russia and Fascists, distributing immense amount of Desinformation and Conspiracy Theories. For example, Julian Reichler schreibt in extreme right Magazin NiUS, the german green party is building a kind of secret police agency. He is convicted for this lie, but it does no stop him. The german A*fD wants to exit European Union. They talk about a new national cooperation and it is all extremely worrying. It should be much more talked about equally as about ongoing wars and the destruction of nature and climate. Toni Kroos does. I had the pleasure of discussing with Katja Diehl, Boris von Heesen and Stefanie Geyer (IG Metall) at the #Gleichstellungstag what a social-economic transformation in the mobility sector could look like. A few key points: - Mobility is not gender-neutral but dominated by masculine norms - Mobility systems in #Germany & #Europe are neither sustainable nor socially just - To achieve the above, we need to massively expand the #public #transport sector with fair, affordable, safe, and accessible mobility services that benefit all, with particular attention to women, racialized people, trans and non-binary, and disabled people - This will have implications for the #automotive and German industries --> we need a conversion towards the production of trains, trams, and bikes. The good news is that throughout industrial history, large factories and plants have been rebuilt repeatedly (often within a short period). Take Corona, for example, Ford, General Motors and Toyota produced face shields, respiratory masks, and ventilators. By restructuring production, jobs can also be saved (it is not just trains that we need, but also workshops, control systems and tracks). According to a study by the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung if automobile production were to be halved (250,000 jobs lost), the loss of jobs could already be offset if, for example, the number of passengers on public transport, rail, and bicycle traffic was to double (214,000 additional jobs) or the number of passengers was to increase by a factor of 2.5 (314,000 additional jobs). Besides, the automotive industry is already in crisis. The capacities in the automotive and supplier industry are catastrophically under-utilized (sales and production in the EU fell by 2 million vehicles between 2019 and 2023). Current studies predict a decline in employment of up to 53% by 2030 in the industry despite the ''Antriebswende''. Plus, this is embedded in an economic system dependent on economic growth and steadily increasing expansion of profit, production and consumption which is not fit for the future. - We need a paradigm shift: fewer cars, dismantling and conversion of the car industry, avoiding forced mobility, reducing transport routes. We need a strategic industrial policy where different partners discuss and develop industrial plans and we need massive public investments.

“Without a strong, independent judiciary, there can be no liberal democracy and there is no rule of law.” – I dive into this concept in my latest interview with #AufRuhr. It was a pleasure to join my re:constitution colleague and friend Jennifer O., from Malta, in discussing the future of the #RuleofLaw. Poland and Malta—both Catholic countries with restrictive abortion laws—have more in common than we might have expected. Our conversation revealed shared struggles, but also mutual hopes for the future. We see the rise of populism, pervasive fear, and Russia’s aggression as some of the main threats facing our democracies. In this interview, I discuss my current project on the vetting and appointment processes of judges across different countries. I ask how these lessons might apply to Poland, especially after recent judicial reforms by the national-conservative PiS government. Between 2018 and 2024, over 2,500 judges were appointed by the National Council for the Judiciary—a body heavily influenced by legislative and executive powers—under unlawful competitions boycotted by the majority of Polish judges. Today, determining the legal status of these appointments is a pressing challenge for the new government. The interview also emphasizes how the re:constitution fellowship fosters these critical discussions.
