In recent years, there's been a rise in entrepreneurship and subsequent business ownership. It's also become easier to DIY things like marketing. At the same time, gurus are telling us all to "charge what we are worth". It can be hard to determine what is expensive vs. reasonable etc. The truth is "cost" is subjective and depends on your revenue and audience. Assuming you have a provider in mind that you know like and trust, here's how to determine if the marketing service you are considering is a good investment or not? B2B reinvest 2-5% of revenue into marketing. B2C reinvest 5-10% of revenue into marketing. Drop a comment to offer similar advice for your industry.

Here's a story that serves as a masterclass in unconventional marketing techniques. An early-stage startup selling a fintech solution wants to participate in an event filled with potential actors and prospects. Unable to afford a booth in this prestigious and expensive venue. Knowing that at such events, the Wi-Fi is often unstable. They decide to create their own Wi-Fi hotspot and also dress up as a cardboard credit card. They offer FREE Wi-Fi on their signs. Prospects come to get the Wi-Fi and must talk with them to get it, in exchange for an email. The result of the operation: they generated hundreds of leads, more than their competitors who could afford a booth.
