As we close out another week, here are some lessons I've learned while traversing this job market. I know you see a dozen posts like this a day. This one's different #maybe - Headcount hiring in the tech sector is down 68% overall. It will vary by industry but if you're feeling the pain of this job market, it's not just you. - No one else tells your story better than you do. If you do not, people will make up their own. Be accountable for your narrative. - Along the way, your job-seeking friends will get jobs. Be happy for them, knowing one day it will be you. It is incredibly easy to compare pathways, skills, networked connections. This breeds envy and is not helpful. - Nobody owes you a job. You are not entitled to a job. Be confident in your abilities and don't let others define them for you but be grateful when they are recognized. - I'm fascinated by the duality between front/1st/2nd line workers, and executives. Workers must have industry experience! Executives can come outside of the industry, they bring a fresh perspective! Workers need to be able to contribute out of the gate! Executives need months of space and grace to figure things out. - I continue to be amazed at the kind, generous, and decent people out there. Recognize, and appreciate these people as they are often the key to your success! - This week has made me feel excited, terrified, hopeless, hopeful, happy, heartbroken, confident, weak, worthless, and invaluable. Next week will be much of the same. It's a resilience game. - I see you out there. Your time is coming. #anotherweekdown #jobsearching #dontsettle #knowyourworth

47% of older millennials say they made the wrong career choice. (Why do so many people make the wrong career choice?) Because they didn't have all the information they needed at the time to make the right one. And maybe they didn't have the confidence. Think about it: How many of us have enough life experience, self-knowledge, and information about ideal careers in our teens? ↳ In our twenties? ↳ Or in our thirties? ↳ Or later? Then we should ask: - How many companies actually match people to careers where they will flourish? - How many schools use a “cognitive career counselor” to match students to their dream careers? - How many workforce centers identify what a person CAN do, instead of what they did in the past? This is easily fixed: 1. Provide career exploration and matching tools to everyone in the workforce. 2. Create accurate job descriptions; remove barriers. 3. Establish a talent marketplace- job postings, mentors, training pathways. Time for a skills-first revolution! P.S. Repost to share with your followers ♻️ P.S.S. Let’s connect if we haven’t already! This problem will only get worse before it gets better….Critical to enabling greater agency and choice for people to build their own pathway is for systems (k-12, higher Ed, youth development, workforce development) to align around a basic career development continuum that recognizes that people need to (1) be aware of opportunities and what it takes to pursue them, (2) explore what interests them to rule out or inform a next step, and then (3) on ramp into training and skills programs to prepare them for success.

Career advice for my 19 y.o. sister DOES NOT work. ❌ As I discuss career aspirations with my younger sister, I realize that her values and goals are significantly shaped by COVID, the rapid changes in tech, AI, and overall macroeconomic volatility. What she wants from her career is different from mine, despite our fairly small age gap. As companies develop strategies to #hire and manage #GenZ in modern workplaces, it's crucial to ask ourselves, "what would they love about their employer?" For me, I always think of my sister, Margarita, as an example. Talking to her about her future career, I've realized it's all about: 🚀 Understanding the WHY (like the mission, vision, and company values). 🚀 Being brave enough to pursue their passions. 🚀 Being willing to try out new roles that haven't even been thought of before. 🚀 Being quick learners and putting in the effort, especially when they understand the WHY. Every #HRstrategy comes down to making it personal and meeting both company's and employee's needs through opportunities to grow in a role, compensation, benefits, flexibility, and all other HR tools. If you have 19-25-year-olds in your communities, simply talk to them before jumping to your next board meeting. You may discover things you've never thought of before. There is genuinely a lot we can learn from young, bright, open minds. We have now reached a point where the foundation of our industries - entry level jobs - are filled by Gen Z folks or younger. Here's a little secret on how we (Gen Z) grew up in middle school: We had unlimited messaging with unlimited availability. It was incredibly lame to "double text" someone if the other never responded...because they for sure didn't respond to you ~on purpose~. Unfortunately, this has now penetrated the work force at a time where about 1 of 1,000 emails are useful. Many coffee requests, job inquiries, etc. are sent into an abyss as if the world was only built on first tries. I believe that there is an abundance of career-shifting opportunities for those who are willing to follow up with others after the first message dies...whether it be email, phone, text, or in person...because it certainly is not personal and most folks are happy to help. I hope this helps younger generations or helps other generations work WITH them. And if you want to reach me, please text me at 614.795.8620. My DM's are a black hole of folks selling me stuff. #realestate #commercialrealestate #genz

Getting Unstuck in Your Career We spend most of our lives working and sleeping – not necessarily in a balanced way. Glassdoor research indicates that 65% of professionals they surveyed are feeling “stuck” in their careers. Tech people 73%. Women 68%. Men 62%. Fewer people are quitting their jobs and layoffs are spreading with and without the help of artificial intelligence. There’s work. There’s need to make a living. And there are career moves. You don’t need a survey to know when you’re feeling you’re stuck in a job – do the one thing most people do not do – trust instincts and act. Tomorrow is not a better time – now is the best time. https://lnkd.in/gV-K5WhD

Embarking on the journey of stepping onto the global stage after a short career break to realign my purpose... Who am I? 🤔 Then, I saw an advert that perfectly aligned with my aspirations, compensation goals, and passion for meaningful work. I thought, Okay, universe, I’m listening... But just as I hit the submit button, a moment of self-discovery hit HARD! Access Denied❣️❣️❣️ 2000’s and below: Respectfully, I am not a Gen Z? Mh!😅 Maybe the universe has its own way of communicating, nudging us to step out of our comfort zones. Here's the amber alert I received: "Hiring and compensation aren’t just about years of experience, they’re about how the hiring entity perceives and values our potential." So, don’t stop putting yourself out there! 😉 As you unwind this weekend, here’s to shaking off labels and stepping boldly into new opportunities, no matter what generation we belong to! 💪🏽✨ Let’s share our experiences, whether it’s those funny "aha" moments or major breakthroughs. Laugh, learn and level up together! 😄🔥 #ReadyToWork #GlobalCareers #NewOpportunities

Since not everyone holds a degree, this platform is a game-changer. Imagine a woman in her 50s with no college degree, forced to leave her job and start over. The world of job searching became an island of loneliness for her. Then, one day, she stumbled upon Jobcase, Inc., a social platform designed for blue-collar workers and those with a passion for work, without the need for a college degree. This platform, in its simplicity and sincerity, changed her life. Fred Goff, the founder of Jobcase, recognized that there is a huge segment of people who need more than what LinkedIn can offer, people without degrees but with talent, experience, and a dream. Goff created a community that not only connects people with jobs but also offers emotional and social support. No matter what their story is, they found a place where they belong. This story is a reminder of why we do what we do, helping people find their place, realize their potential, and feel part of something bigger. Thumbs up to the team at Jobcase! It’s the kind of impact we strive for every day at Elevate People Hire. In the attached picture, there are some successful "anonymous" millionaires and billionaires who are college dropouts:)
