This is great work from Steve P. (and all) to develop our new induction programme. But why is induction important? It's important because they serve as the first point of contact between employees and an organsation's values and expectations, creating an opportunity to immerse new employees in the unique aspects of a company's culture (and we are complex!) regardless of where they work, helping to maintain a cohesive culture across teams and departments. Creating that positive first impression helps shape how employees perceive, experience and engage with the organisational culture which impacts both individual and organisational performance. Most importantly, it's a big welcome into the company! You are the custodians of the future success of our organisation and industry. #talentmanagement #hr #peoplemanagement #humanresources #rail
👀 Something new is coming! In a couple of weeks, we'll welcome our first cohort onto our new redeveloped induction programme. We aim to give everyone a good basis to give our people the best start to their career. We can’t wait to give a warm welcome to our new starters and support giving them a strong start to their rail career. Looking for a career in rail? The rail industry is facing a well-documented skills gap, but in East Kilbride, 11 young graduates have successfully completed the QTS Rail Skills Academy programme. Equipping them with crucial qualifications, including the Personal Track Safety (PTS) card, which enables them to work safely in operational rail environments. Led by QTS Group, this programme highlights the importance of targeted, industry-specific training to bridge workforce shortages and create long-term career opportunities. As QTS Training Director Paul Jarvis noted, the academy is about more than technical skills—it's about unlocking potential and fostering pathways into a sector vital to the UK’s future. As rail strives for ambitious goals such as net-zero emissions and digitalisation, these new recruits will play a vital role in shaping its future. Programmes like this one are essential to ensure the sector has a pipeline of talent ready to innovate, adapt, and lead. Initiatives like the QTS Rail Skills Academy also raise broader questions. How can we replicate their success to scale up skills development across the UK? What more can be done to attract young talent into rail? And how do we make similar opportunities more inclusive, ensuring they are accessible to all communities? These graduates are stepping into an era of exciting possibilities for rail. Their journey serves as an inspiring reminder of what can be achieved when investment in people meets a clear vision for the future. The rail industry, with its vital role in sustainable transport and economic growth, depends on initiatives like this to ensure its resilience and progress. When a train doesn't stop at your station, it's a reminder that not everything is meant for you. Sometimes, opportunities or people pass by because they're not aligned with your path or goals. It's important to accept this and focus on the trains that do stop, the opportunities that are meant for you. Instead of dwelling on missed chances, embrace the journey and trust that the right opportunities will come your way. Remember, every missed train opens up space for the right one to arrive. #opportunities #embracethechange #keepmovingforward #trusttheprocess #believeinyourself #positiveoutlook

According to the Rail Safety and Standards Board (RSSB), research on reducing the minimum age of train drivers from 20 to 18 shows that existing training, competence and safety systems could be deployed for younger entrants, obviating the need for new costs or special allowances. RSSB has conducted research on the feasibility of reducing the minimum age of train drivers from 20 to 18. Other European countries already allow people as young as 18 to drive domestic trains, and are reportedly seeing the benefits. #railnews #railways #ukrail #rail
