Ready to know more about my FYP? Here’s what Campus Twin is all about! Yesterday, I introduced Campus Twin, and today, I’m diving a bit deeper! A lot of people ask: What is Campus Twin, and how does it work? Unlike a real-time digital twin, which updates live, Campus Twin is a detailed, interactive 3D model of our campus—essentially a virtual game version of our university’s most recent layout. Students and users will be able to explore and interact with this model to get a feel for campus life and see our spaces up close! Why create this project? Campus Twin is designed to give users a realistic experience of our university’s environment, even if they can’t visit in person. Whether you're already studying here or interested in joining, it provides an opportunity to explore and understand the campus layout and atmosphere, making it easier for students to get a sense of where they’ll be. Do great architectural masterpieces, museums, galleries and free flowing gardens inspire students to learn better? Below is the famous quad of Newcastle University, UK. Even after centuries, it inspires every faculty and student and visitor. My every experiment at Shoolini University also indicates the same. After all, are we universities not in the profession of inspiration - to inspire our students to break the norm of mediocrity. Every convocation pic of every graduating student I know has a pic of the most inspiring university building in the background. Agree? So why cant universities make sure that every building we build is a masterpiece? Why can’t every inch of space in our universities be spattered with inspiring gardens, museums, art galleries, cafes? Hey, Network! Are you aware of any “collaborative design” spaces in Houston? Similar to the Capgemini ASE, EY Wavespace, Deloitte Greenhouse, etc.? The video is from the most inspirational example from my community, a massive design workshop in New Zealand on the future of education, facilitated by Philippe Coullomb. https://lnkd.in/gaKsgnBn In Houston, there are dozens of co-working spaces or white rooms with chairs labelled "innovation" hub/center, but I haven't found an actual innovation spaces with the open floor plan, moveable walls, and (most important) a **process** for facilitation and deep collaborative design. Houston, Texas is the epicenter of the Energy Transition for North America with gabillions of dollars flowing in. However... in my 2 years here, I haven't experienced any actual deeply-designed, well-facilitated, large-scale, transformative DesignShops or equivalent, in which there is active, collaborative design work among the participants that is curated, documented, synthesized, visualized, and shared in realtime. There have to be some going on, right? Currently, I am traveling everywhere outside of Houston to support and participate in these types of working sessions. Don't get me wrong! There are so many interesting panel discussions and free networking events (grateful!). However, I am hungry to be part of the solution, not merely a spectator. As an undergraduate student myself, I've witnessed firsthand how much we learn and grow during this incredible time. But all too often, these valuable lessons and experiences get lost in the shuffle. Textbooks pile up, memories fade, and the wealth of knowledge we gain from each other goes untapped. That's why I'm passionate about building Uni Diaries – a digital journal filled with the collective wisdom of university journeys. Uni Diaries is more than just a platform; it's a community. It's about capturing the essence of university life, sharing our triumphs and challenges, and offering a helping hand (or a shoulder to cry on) to fellow students. 🍁 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐬 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬? 🍁 Post covid, there was much talk about the creation of a 'sticky campus'. What can be created which invites staff and students to spend more time on university grounds and what is it that makes an educational space or place memorable, enjoyable or worthy of someone's hard and precious earned time? Which environments spark joy, aid in making us more productive, happier and how can they subtly interrupt or improve someone's day, even if only for a brief moment? For me, it isn't necessarily about how I feel within spaces, more about how they affect me as I walk around them. Absorbing the beautiful architecture of the University of Leeds campus when I pop out for a coffee, catching a glimpse of the famous heron on the Roger Stevens pond or taking in the awe of the Parkinson building while hoping I don't fall up or down the steps! And it changes from season to season. As an Autumn girly, I wait with excitement every year for this particular tree to proudly display her orange coat. On the way to one of Karina Kendricks meetings recently, I found myself in the right place, at the right time. The blue skies, sunlight and lack of traffic perfectly aligned to capture one of my favourite campus spots. It quite literally brightens up my day and signals that year another exciting academic year is upon us.
