I just read a weekly check-in from one of my cohort members creating her first online course, and it reminded me of why so many #onlinecourses cohort models 🚫don't🚫 work. ⚡️ Cohorts using online courses need to consider your audience's schedule outside of your program, motivations, location, and overall situation. The accelerator cohort model I designed for SPI Media has just enough mandatory components to keep people moving forward and held accountable, but not *too* many to overwhelm them or feel like a failure. 100% live cohorts don't work for our audience, and completely asynchronous cohorts don't work either. It took a custom hybrid approach to get us the success we are seeing every day. 💡 💬 And the comment mentioned originally? 7 years in the making. It seems that everything that has transpired, including things I had assumed had already been buried and put on indefinite hold, is merely a prelude to something that will eventually be revisited and eventually come to fruition. I never imagined I'd see the light of day knowing that one feature we've been trying to figure out how to accomplish has finally made an appearance - a clear nerve-wracking path to persist. The After Six Club is a progressive and transformative events learning company born because of LinkedIn that launched in 2018 and closed its business doors in March 2020 due the pandemic. As the world opened up, somehow, even if you resist -- it really has it's way on "opening" back up again. Funny how I have been meaning to ANNOUNCE that we’ve closed it down but here we are, in 2024, still haven’t done so and I guess, don’t need to? Or maybe, not yet? 6 months ago, if you asked me if reviving the startup was possible. I'd definitely give you an uncertain answer. I have always had my thoughts around COACH CONNECT, I just didn't have the capacity to pursue it for reasons I know were merely excuses. Now it all makes sense. We're leading towards that direction, alongside the reopening of my group coaching program where coaches, consultants and online educators get to have work-life integration as a requisite, not a suggestion. I wondered to myself, "How could I be so lucky?" on our way home. God truly knows how to rekindle your faith and demonstrate to you that everything has a purpose and a season. I'm glad I have friends that, even in the midst of the deafening stillness, understood where my heart truly lies and knew how to reignite the fire we're currently pursuing. This week the spouse of one of those upline mentors passed away at a ripe old age. Lots of memories came flooding back from those days and some frustrations. Most of my upline mentors in that opportunity had gained various levels of financial success and was more than willing to share their experiences with me. I strived to follow their examples and create similar results for myself unfortunately it didn't come about. It's not their fault nor was it a problem with the opportunity which is still doing multi billion dollars a year Nope, just the man in the mirror and that's the frustration that hit me this week. Not being able to create some financial leverage from the numerous opportunities that I have been associated with over these past 2 decades is very humiliating. Either I'm missing something or not doing enough of it to generate the necessary momentum towards success. And what's my alternative, just quit. That's not going to help anything either. So my only course is to continue on this entrepreneurial path and remove whatever obstacles that hindering g me from achieving success. Reading CJs renewed emails have affirmed that spirit of resiliency and determination to succeed. I'm 25 and a COO—here's the one game-changing habit that's taught me more than anything else. (and it's not reading books). It's social learning—learning from others. Think about it: From childhood to now, the lessons you remember or the actions you take are often inspired by someone else, whether by watching, listening, or asking questions. 📌I learned how to be an entrepreneur by listening to the stories of other entrepreneurs. 📌I learned to be a speaker by seeing and listening to what other speakers do and how they talk. Here's how you can improve yourself through social learning: 1. Be in a community where people prioritize learning: We all know our surroundings can impact our behaviour. If the people around you are not obsessed with learning, it's time to change your surroundings. So try to be in a group where you can strengthen your knowledge. 2. Use social events: One of my favourite ways is to attend events. At these places, you can learn and communicate meaningfully with seasoned entrepreneurs and the entrepreneurs in your league. 3. Try different formats: It doesn't always have to be offline events. Attend virtual classes to (I'm currently doing one) gain a different experience and also to make your learning process more enjoyable. Don’t get me wrong, I'm not against reading books, but I know that for some, it's not the most effective way to learn. We're social creatures—we need other people to share ideas, ask questions, and challenge ourselves. Here's my challenge to you: If you're a person who finds reading hard, then watch YouTube tutorials, attend a live workshop, or sign up for an online course to make learning a lifetime habit. PS: Change your reading format once in a while—the more you make the process interesting, the less likely you are to give up learning. #personalgrowth #learnings
