The last year for NBAA-BACE? The 2024 edition of the NBAA- BACE can be summarised with a single word; thin. The indoor exhibition used to take up two of the Las Vegas Convention Center’s massive exhibition halls - this year there was just one. The static display was notable by the complete absence of Gulfstream and Dassault. Bombardier seemed to pull out the stops and Embraer also put on a good show. I was surprised by the presence of a Let 410NG (Isle of Man readers will doubtlessly recall Manx2.com’s Czech registered aircraft that appeared to be made from girders and were so loud inside they had the genius idea of showing silent movies as inflight entertainment). The NG (Next Generation) has an all-glass cockpit, but otherwise appeared unchanged, though I am sure there have been lots of invisible improvements. I heard talk of environmental issues, but nothing to the same extent as you would hear in Europe. The elephant in the room was, of course, the forthcoming Presidential Election. Nobody seemed to be talking about it, though my friends at Aviation Week noted that the uncertainty over the outcome was making everyone sit on their hands when it comes to aircraft purchases. In the hall I saw just one Maga hat. Las Vegas, as ever, just wants you to have a good time and doesn’t want the real world to get in the way of this objective. It was great to meet up with old friends - thanks TVPX for another great reception at the MGM Hotel - and to meet some new ones too. The new friends will be hearing from me in due course. My first NBAA was in 2004 - 20 years ago. Back then it was an event of wonder. Over the years I have attended it in Orlando, New Orleans, Atlanta and now it’s permanent home in Las Vegas. As the event seems to be smaller, I think there is scope for them to mix it up a bit and find other cities to stage it in. My perception is that while hall space might be cheaper than EBACE’s Palexpo, the cost of visiting Las Vegas is now comparable with Geneva, unless you are prepared to go a long way off Las Vegas Boulevard; $7.99 for a small bottle of water anyone? I am going to need a really good reason to come back in ‘25.

Effectiveness = achieved outcome / (time + effort) I have been diving into our core values and looking to simplify and define fully what they mean for anyone who join the team. Do you think this equation give a clear representation of effectiveness? By the getting my pilots license to fly the plane in the pic is on my vision board and it can be a great reminder to stay effective so I can make it a reality.
