Early in my career, one client stood out among the rest. During our product design review meetings, the CEO of the company would often quietly sit in the back of the room. On more than one occasion, he would interrupt the meeting to challenge not just our team but also the decision-makers within his own company. He insisted that we share the story behind the product design. Initially, I was taken aback by his interruption. Eager to present the latest solutions, I wasn’t prepared for the shift and view the bigger picture from a higher altitude. But over time, I realized how crucial this exercise was to the bigger picture of product development. If we couldn’t clearly and compellingly communicate the 'why' behind the design, the customer wouldn't grasp the importance of buying the product. This experience taught me an invaluable lesson: the importance of having conviction in the product story. After all, a compelling story always includes conflict followed by resolution. Is your business lacking a compelling story behind the products you deliver? Let’s connect—we’d love to show you how we enhance product design by building a powerful narrative. #Productdevelopment #Storytelling #ProductDesign #lessonslearned

I often advise designers to be bolder with their perspectives. Very seldom will you have space and time to tell bold, innovative visions that push the limits of what is possible, so you have to take the initiative, put in the effort, and use your super powers of storytelling and prototyping to influence product strategy. The most crucial opportunity to do this is when there is a crisis and no one knows what to do. Your vision (often coupled with research) becomes an opportunity for your stakeholders to decide what to do or what not to do—essentially, de-risking the business from investing in the wrong direction and/or becoming a catalyst for innovation. #productdesign #designstrategy

As product managers, understanding the core design principles can elevate our approach to problem-solving and innovation. 🚀🚀 Here are some key design laws that can enhance the design thinking process: 1. Law of Proximity: Group related items together. This principle helps in organizing features intuitively, making navigation seamless for users. 2. Hick’s Law: Simplify choices. The more options users have, the longer it takes to decide. By prioritizing features, we can streamline decision-making. 3. Fitt’s Law: Design for ease of access. The time to target a button or link is determined by its size and distance. Larger, strategically placed elements enhance user experience. 4. Gestalt Principles: Leverage these principles of perception—like similarity and closure—to create cohesive and visually appealing designs that guide users naturally. 5. The Principle of Least Astonishment: Users should find your product intuitive. Avoid surprises in navigation and functionality to build trust and familiarity. Integrating these design laws into our products can foster innovation and improve user satisfaction. 🧑💻🧑💻 What design principles do you find most impactful in your work? 🤔🤔 Share your thoughts! 👇 #ProductManagement #DesignThinking #UserExperience #Innovation

What do some of the best selling products have in common? They deconstructed the product to reimagine what the components could be. They combined or replaced them with novel ideas to create new experiences. How often do you ideate on new ways to enable a product function? Do you spend time reimagining the components or are they glossed over because they just work? This activity will reframe your perspective to identify new opportunities for creativity and innovation. Condition 10: Deconstruct to Basics How have you utilized this in product development? Ideation sessions? Do you know one person that could benefit from this? Share it with them. _______ I want you to be more creative. I'm posting one Condition That Inspires Creativity every week for the next 30 weeks. The posts will come out every week. Solving problems is a huge chunk of a Product Designer’s daily work, but don’t let the constant fire keep you from being strategic. Try to create a holistic view of any major problem you need to solve and connecting pieces will be easier, enabling you to create new strategies to keep problems from happening in the first place.

"We know all this," founders often say when it comes to the context, but... ... "but [NotGeorge] thinks we should target a different ICP." ... "but [random person in the company] doesn't understands the problem." ... "but we have three versions of these somewhere on G Drive." It's not the lack of knowledge that's the problem. It's how to transfer the information and get everyone on the same page. If these issues are not addressed, more often than not, everything becomes slower: - Slower ideation - Slower development time - Slower marketing - Slower sales - Lack of growth - Decrease in revenue We navigate this phase by getting all stakeholders to the same table. This is the first step of our solution creation phase. Continuing the redesigning process, here's what's next: - Alignment of stakeholders - Identifying possible challenges - Research & inspiration - Concept creation - Prototyping - Testing The important part is putting the solution in front of potential customers and collecting feedback. This is the first crucial test to see if we are heading in the right direction. --- PS: If you're a founder looking to take your product to the next level... Test It, Tweak It, Perfect It... Prototyping provides a tangible form to your ideas. It serves as a preliminary model that represents key aspects of the final product, allowing designers, developers, and stakeholders to visualize and interact with the concept. Why prototyping is important? -Helps in validating concepts -Helps in identifying and resolving issues early in the development process -Facilitate communication by providing visual aids for all stakeholders -Supports iterative improvement -Identifies potential risks early, thus saving time and resource - By refining the product early, prototyping can speed up the overall development process Types of prototyping: -Low fidelity designs -High fidelity designs -Interactive designs Prototyping is a vital step in product development, providing a practical way to explore ideas, refine designs, and ensure that the final product aligns with user needs and business goals. What’s your go-to prototype type? Why? #product #productmanagement #productmanager

Design Thinking Purpose: Design Thinking is a problem-solving methodology aimed at understanding user needs and developing creative, user-centric solutions. Key Principles: Empathy: Deep understanding of the users and their needs. Define: Clearly explain the problem to be solved. Ideate: Generate a wide range of ideas and potential solutions. Prototype: Create tangible representations of ideas to explore and test. Test: Obtain feedback from users to refine prototypes and solutions. #productowner #productdevelopment #productmanagement

I just started my journey embracing the Design Thinking approach to projects. Thank you Adam Fulford for guiding me. Here are some insights after reading HBR's must-reads on design thinking: 1. Action > Process 2. Create quick, tangible results to achieve the goal 3. Goal - customer satisfaction 4. Ideation, prototyping and execution. Fast, value-focused 5. Think about “job to be done” and not “product” 6. Admit, and learn from failures. Fail fast 7. People talk about prototypes, not about concepts
