Two weeks ago we discussed creativity in the Creative Bloosoming workshop at Venture Café Warsaw Foundation. We managed to go through exercises that clarified the problem, generated solutions and prototyped them. Below I've outlined some of my key thoughts on the subject. For me and Ilona Skarbowska, the key to understanding what creativity is is that creativity is the art of... problem solving! Once we understand this, it becomes more accessible to us. To fully tap into its resources, it needs to be trained! What methods do you use to train your creativity?

This spring, we’re deeply reflective of the profound impact that Idea Review events have on Project Invent students. 💡 🚀 Rachel Lee, CEO of BlueFoot Inc., shared her journey from engineer to patent attorney to inventor to founder, highlighting how receiving feedback shaped her path. Evan Leaphart, CEO of Kredit Academy, discussed his first spark with the inventor hotline and how to refine your own ideas and solutions. Fonz Morris, Lead Product Designer for Global Conversion at Netflix, talked about his journey and the importance of understanding your end user. These gatherings are more than just milestones on the invention journey; they are transformative experiences. The opportunity for our students to meet and learn from keynote speakers—leaders who've navigated the complex path from concept to realization—is invaluable. 🌟 When our keynote speakers share, they do more than just impart wisdom; they connect with our students on a human level, illustrating the trials and triumphs of the invention process. This openness humanizes the path to success—making innovation attainable for our students. Their stories serve as vivid reminders that every great invention begins with a simple idea and a dash of courage. Stories with lessons like … 1️⃣ Ask Fearlessly For Feedback - Delete Ego 2️⃣ Be A Vitamin, Not A Pain Pill For Solutions 3️⃣ Understand Your User - Embrace User Empathy … from our Fall Idea Review keynote speakers, resonate vibrantly among our students as lifelines they can hang onto throughout the invention journey. To our speakers, thank you for sharing your incredible stories and invaluable advice. Together, we're not just dreaming of a brighter future; we're actively building it. 🌟 #ProjectInvent #IdeaReview #Innovation #Storytelling #SocialGood #ReflectiveJourney

Unpopular Opinion: Short hackathon durations, while intended to spur rapid development, inadvertently stifle the creative process. They force participants into a frenzied race against time, leaving little room for exploration, experimentation, and, most importantly, failure. Let's face it: true innovation isn't born from rushed solutions hastily pieced together in a caffeine-fueled haze. It thrives in an environment where thinkers are free to explore tangents, test unorthodox methodologies, and yes, embrace failure as a stepping stone toward success. Let's be honest: when time is scarce, it's far easier to rely on what we know works than to venture into uncharted territory. But herein lies the danger — by succumbing to the allure of the familiar, we inadvertently stifle the emergence of truly intuitive solutions, we create more of the same! True innovation and learning thrive on diversity of thought, experimentation, and the freedom to challenge conventional wisdom. Yet, in the frenetic rush to meet deadlines, these principles are often sidelined in favor of expediency.

What Judging Hackathons in 2024 Taught Me About Innovation Hackathons are so much more than just coding—they’re a test of creativity, resilience, and the power of collaboration. Every event is a reminder of how innovation thrives when great minds come together. Here are 3 lessons that stood out to me this year: 1️⃣ Teamwork > Solo Brilliance The best solutions emerge when diverse perspectives collide. Individual brilliance is great, but teamwork always wins. 2️⃣ A Weak Pitch Can Sink a Strong Idea Your idea might be amazing, but if you can’t communicate its value effectively, it won’t land. Storytelling matters as much as problem-solving. 3️⃣ Start with the Problem, Not the Solution A brilliant tech solution is meaningless if it doesn’t address a real-world issue. Validate the problem first—always. Hackathons inspire me every time with their energy, creativity, and raw passion. They remind me why innovation is about mindset, not just tools.

One of the most interesting things about watching kids play is their ability to invent and then immediately break the rules they’ve created. No fear, no hesitation—just the freedom to test new boundaries. In business, we often get stuck in the rules we think we need to follow, or even helped to create. But true innovation happens when we push those limits and challenge the status quo. The future belongs to those bold enough to break the rules they helped create. When was the last time you let yourself think and explore like a kid? #Innovation #CreativeThinking #ThinkDifferently #WorkplaceCulture

This week, I would like to discuss more about creativity & innovation. 🎉 So welcome to our creativity & innovation series! 🚀 On Mondays, we're kicking off with the basics. Creativity is the cornerstone of innovation, and throughout this week, we'll explore how to unlock it. Remember, creativity isn't just for artists – it's for everyone! 💡 Why Creativity Matters: Creativity isn't just about artistic expression; it's about problem-solving, thinking outside the box, and finding new ways to approach challenges. In today's rapidly changing world, the ability to innovate is more crucial than ever before. 📚 Recommended Reading: "Creative Confidence" by Tom Kelley and David Kelley: Learn how to unleash your creative potential and overcome the fear of judgement. "Originals: How Non-Conformists Move the World" by Adam Grant: Discover how to champion new ideas and navigate the challenges of innovation. 💬 Quote of the Day: "Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower." - Steve Jobs 🤔 Born Creative or Learned Skill?: The age-old question – are some people just born creative, or can creativity be learned? While some individuals may seem to have a natural inclination towards creativity, research suggests that creativity is a skill that can be nurtured and developed over time. ✨ Nurturing Creativity: Just like any other skill, creativity thrives with practice and persistence. By cultivating a mindset of curiosity, embracing failure as a part of the learning process, and exploring new ideas and experiences, anyone can unlock their creative potential. 🌟 Takeaway: Whether you believe you're born creative or not, remember that creativity is within reach for everyone. So, let's embark on this journey together and discover the boundless possibilities that lie ahead! Stay tuned for more insights throughout the week. 🌟 #skyhightower #lbfalumni #creativity #innovation The attached picture is a water color piece I painted, based on a picture I saw on the internet.
