Extremely fortunate to say that after an amazing summer internship, I've received a full-time offer from Lumen Technologies! Getting an offer, one semester before graduating, especially when the market's this bad - phew! Here's what mattered: 1. Luck: A lot of folks (from various organizations) ended their summer internships without a return offer simply because companies do not have the "headcount" yet ... meaning they cannot roll out offers months/year in advance before they have finalized their business needs. Conversions don't happen purely based on skill. Conversions happen based on requirements, which is not in our (employee's) control. 2. Performance and Fit: This is the only thing in our control. Most of the time it just boils down to being a decent team player. Intent > Talent : someone who's committed and who shows intent to grow will always be valuable to the team. So it's okay if you don't know how to containerize an application on Day 1. This is an internship. Hot take: Point 1 often matters more than Point 2. Which is why I used the word "fortunate".

🎉 Excited to Share My Next Chapter! ✨ I’m thrilled to announce that I have accepted a Summer 2025 Software Development Engineer (SDE) Internship offer at Arista Networks! This 12-week opportunity, starting in June, will be a significant milestone, and I’m excited to work at their Santa Clara Headquarters on impactful and exciting projects. This achievement comes after an incredible struggle — applying to over 500 companies during a challenging market situation. Despite the odds, I remained determined, explored opportunities, interviewed with few companies, and ultimately found Arista to be the best fit for my summer internship. I owe my deepest gratitude to: 💙 My parents, whose unwavering support gave me the courage to pursue a Master’s degree at UC San Diego, leaving behind the comfort of a stable job and life in India. 💙 My friends, whose constant encouragement inspired me to step out of my comfort zone and push my boundaries. 💙 UCSD Career Center, for facilitating career fairs and networking opportunities that connected me with amazing companies and people. A special thanks to Chirag Dasannacharya for an insightful chat and Michael Chu for the engaging interview. This journey has taught me that while skills and preparation are vital, there’s also an element of luck in navigating today’s competitive job market. So, let’s be kind to ourselves and keep moving forward! Here’s 5 not-so common tips from my experience as an intern at Dell Technologies 💻: 1. People are willing to make introductions to help you find the right people to talk to. I’ve done many other internships, but never experienced an environment up until now where I was supported in finding mentors. Ask your teammates for contacts and intros! 🗣️ 2. Your manager is your biggest advocate. They’re not here to make your life harder. The more you update them and do consistent 1on1s with, the less burden you have all on yourself. Share the roadblocks with them and brainstorm solutions together. 💼 3. Social events with other interns can seem like a waste of time especially with hard project deadlines, but talking to other interns and learning about what they do can help you find your next role OR be in the know of someone from a team you might need for support later down the line. 📚 4. Use lunch as a time to meet people. At my past internships, I would take my lunch at my desk and just work through it, but as much as ur work matters, it’s also important to create those relationships + give yourself a break! 🌮 5. Don’t be afraid to do things outside of your main duties. This summer, I let myself try many different things. From Goldman Sachs Intern to Full-Time Software Engineer! Transitioning from a summer intern to a full-time Software Engineer was an incredibly fulfilling experience. It was an enriching journey, filled with learning, challenges, and immense hard work and preparation. During my internship, I made it a point to learn as much as I could, not just from my assigned tasks but also from mentors and available resources. From day one, I treated the internship like a real job. I proactively took ownership of my tasks and asked clarifying questions to exceed expectations. I documented my work meticulously, presented findings clearly, and actively sought feedback from my peers. I voluntarily connected with my manager and stakeholders frequently to seek feedback, which helped me build strong relationships within a few months. As the internship neared its end, I also started preparing for full-time interviews as a backup, just in case I didn't get a PPO. Practicing coding questions regularly, refreshing core CS concepts, and doing mock interviews with friends helped me a lot during this time. By following these steps, I was able to land job offers from Barclays and Nvidia before my internship ended. I also received the most coveted PPO and decided to pursue Goldman Sachs as a full-time Software Engineer. I'm incredibly grateful for the experiences that led me here.
