Impaired Driving Kills the Holiday Spirit. It’s a danger we can all help prevent. Whether you’re out with friends, attending events, or just enjoying the day, make sure your plans prioritize safety. Fairfield Police urge everyone to plan ahead and make responsible choices: ▪️ If you’re drinking or using marijuana or other substances, arrange for a sober driver, use a ride-sharing service, or opt for public transportation. ▪️ Never get into a vehicle with someone under the influence. ▪️ Encourage friends and family to make safe decisions as well—together, we can make our community safer. Fairfield Police will be increasing enforcement of impaired driving as we enter the holiday season and throughout the year when instances of impaired driving are high, thanks to ongoing grant funding from the State of Connecticut. This support enables us to put additional officers on the road, ensuring safer streets for all. Every choice counts when it comes to preventing impaired driving. Let’s work together to keep Fairfield safe. #SafetyFirstFairfield

It’s time to ensure safe mobility for everyone. Here’s how you can contribute: - Always Stop on Red: It’s the law, and it saves lives. A few seconds saved at a light isn’t worth the risk of a devastating crash. - Spread Awareness: Talk to friends and family about Stop on Red Week and the importance of safe driving. = Advocate for Safety: Support legislation and enforcement measures that address red-light running. Together, we can help make our streets safer. Let’s ZERO in on RED! #ZeroInOnRed

Listen to Andrew Stober. Preventing these tragic losses of life is neither particularly complex nor expensive to do, but it will take political will to improve these outcomes, and in some cases that will look like elected officials stepping out of the way so that engineers can do their jobs quickly enough to prevent the next incidents from occurring. Center City thrives on the ability of so many to move to it and through it on foot or by bike. The vibrancy of our downtown, the quality of our air, the (relative) lack of congestion on our streets, and so many other things are determined in large part by people opting to travel in these ways. We cannot afford to see rates of walking and biking decline, and in fact we should intentionally and deliberately be striving to drive them up as much as possible. And PS, if you must drive in Center City, please abide by posted speed limits. I will note that on Spruce Street the signals are timed for drivers to travel at 20mph, at which speed one's chance of dying as a pedestrian or cyclist is just 5%. A pedestrian struck by a car going 30mph has a 45% chance of death. There is no sound reason to drive faster than 20mph on a narrow city street in the heart of a major city.

On Thursday, I returned to Philadelphia from a work trip to the tragic news that three people were hit by cars in Philly on Wednesday. Two died. A stark reminder of the urgency to improve road safety. Unlike many social issues, solutions to traffic fatalities are within reach. We owe it to the victims and their families to create a safer Philadelphia. Thanks to the The Philadelphia Inquirer for letting me share my thoughts. Driving in New York City is challenging at the best of times. With poor weather conditions, limited visibility, and slippery streets, pedestrians are at an even higher risk of being hit by a vehicle. Under Mayor Bill de Blasio, New York City implemented “Vision Zero,” an initiative to reduce the number of traffic accidents to zero. Sadly, the city continues to have shocking numbers of pedestrians injured or killed — with 7,688 pedestrians injured and 93 deaths in a recent year, as reported by Streetsblog NYC. At Wingate, Russotti, Shapiro, Moses & Halperin, LLP, we want everyone to stay safe on the streets of New York City, rain or shine, but we know accidents happen. Fort Worth House Parties and the Police: Keep the Fun Inside Hey, party people of Fort Worth! This is Casey Cole from Cole Pascal Law with a friendly PSA about house parties and the police. It's simple: if the cops knock during your party, don't open the door. Here's the deal: Police need probable cause or a warrant to enter your home. Opening the door gives them a chance to see or smell things that could give them that probable cause. No open door, no easy entry. Here's what to do instead: Gather your guests inside. Turn down the music. Keep the noise to a minimum. Usually, the police will move on if the disturbance is minor. If they persist, politely decline to open the door and ask if they have a warrant. Remember, your home is your castle. Protect your party and your guests by knowing your rights and keeping the fun behind closed doors. Traffic violence affects tens of thousands of New Yorkers each year, yet traditional responses to it often fail to address root causes while deepening racial and economic disparities in the justice system. Alternatives like the Driver Accountability Program aim to tackle those underlying issues, holding people accountable for driving-related offenses by encouraging reflection and behavioral change. Our new evaluation of the program in Brooklyn and Staten Island shows crucial signs of success at reducing rates of reoffending and shrinking the footprint of the justice system. ➡️ Read the full report today: https://lnkd.in/eTfNZV6u
