Pentagon recommends delivering white phosphorus shells to Ukraine — NBC According to the report, White House has rejected the idea several times NEW YORK, September 26/ The Pentagon recommended that the White House began delivering white phosphorus munitions to the Kiev government, the NBC television channel reported citing US officials. According to the report, senior Pentagon officials have recommended that the US provide Ukraine with white phosphorus munitions for use on the battlefield, but the White House has rejected the idea several times. According to the sources, the Department of Defense recommended providing the white phosphorus shells to Ukraine as part of several recent aid packages. The officials said, however, that even if the munitions are sent to Ukraine, a public announcement on the issue is unlikely. White phosphorus is used for military purposes in aerial bombs, aviation cluster ammunition, artillery shells and mines. Incendiary weapons are considered to be conventional but Protocol 3 of the 1980 UN Convention on Inhumane Weapons bans their use against civilians and civilian facilities, as well as in strikes on military targets in civilian areas. Human rights organizations have long been calling for designating white phosphorus munitions as chemical weapons. #business #finance #financialservices

It needs to do a better job of incorporating new technology at scale <...> and deploy innovative operational concepts," the report reads. According to the commission, "the US defense industrial base (DIB) is unable to meet the equipment, technology, and munitions needs of the United States and its allies and partners." "A protracted conflict, especially in multiple theaters, would require much greater capacity to produce, maintain, and replenish weapons and munitions," the report notes. #business #finance #financialservices

“We should replenish those [munition] stocks and then some. I was already dissatisfied with the magazine depth,” Adm. Samuel Paparo, head of USINDOPACOM “There is also an emerging consensus that expanding and diversifying the U.S. industrial base available to produce key munitions, as well as developing and fielding lower-cost capabilities that are faster to produce, is increasingly critical.” #DefenseReadiness #MilitaryLogistics #IndoPacificStrategy #SupplyChainResilience #NationalSecurity https://lnkd.in/eNafZWQ7

One in five munitions used by Ukrainian troops fails — defense minister According to the report, Kiev "developed a procedure, which will make it possible not only to dispose of dangerous items, but use them to benefit" the troops MOSCOW, October 15/ Much of the ammunition used by the Ukrainian armed forces is defective, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said, commenting on the government’s decision to allow the disposal of munitions directly in the combat zone. "According to approximate calculations, up to 20% of munitions fail in the combat zone," he said, according to the Defense Ministry’s Telegram channel. "So we have developed a procedure, which will make it possible not only to dispose of dangerous items, but use them to benefit our troops." Umerov explained that the "cabinet allowed to process explosive devices via mobile systems directly at the defusing locations, which will make it possible to obtain valuable products for our defense needs." Previously, the Handelsblatt newspaper reported citing its sources that some ammunition, shipped to Ukraine by the West, is defective. According to the newspaper, these munitions were shipped under the Czech initiative and from the United States. #business #finance #financialservices

As part of its initiative to find and purchase artillery ammunition for #Ukraine, the #Czech Republic has already contracted for the first 180 000 shells. This was reported by the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Petr Fiala in a column for the Financial Times. "In the coming months, they will be delivered to the #Ukrainian front. We would never have achieved such promising results without the strong initial support of #Denmark and the #Netherlands — and around 20 other countries who later joined us by pledging to help," he said. And he added that the Czech Republic is also preparing contracts for another 300 000 ammunition. According to him, during the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war, the Czech Republic supplied the Defense Forces of Ukraine with more than a million large-caliber ammunition. The Czech side is trying to create a reliable ammunition supply mechanism that will affect the situation at the front. "For this, we use our unique experience, which is based on long-term support of Ukraine, the strength of our defense industry and our historically established contacts in third countries," explained the prime minister. The Czech munitions initiative has another goal: to give the West more time to adapt as the war "changes our world, the days of complacency are over." Petr Fiala believes that the Western world needs to create a security policy that includes more substantial investments in defense to deter aggressors. "All these changes are happening: we are investing much more in the security and modernization of our defense forces. NATO is expanding. And even those figures in individual countries who until recently believed that reasonable negotiations with Russia could be conducted are now fully aware of their share of responsibility," Petr Fiala summarized. https://lnkd.in/dC4RW9Rj
