Highlights include our “Miles for Mungo’s” challenge, raising £16,500, and our Annual Golf Day, which generated over £19,000. Last week, our MD, Pete Evans had a great conversation with Mike Quate and Rachel Smith about One for the City. One for the City lets businesses commit either 1% of their revenue or profit to charities in Leeds. The organisation is inspired by 1% for the planet but focuses on Leeds. It also helps address the the growing gap between the business economy and the people suffering hardship in Leeds because of their socio-economic circumstances. Business isn't just about making money and whilst our MD, Pete Evans is from the other side of the Pennines, it is great to be giving back to the city where the business is now based. The manifesto of One for the City is:- 1) Champion business to become a force for good which benefits wider society and the environment 2) Create a community of businesses committed to growing a more inclusive economy 3) Increase collective giving to charitable and social causes in the city 4) Provide a platform for which businesses can centrally contribute their financial donations 5) Illustrate the impact made businesses supporting the 1% model If you are interested in knowing more then reach out directly to Mike Quate

| Shaw and Partners donates $611,000 to charity during Institutional Foundation Day | Clients have again helped us set an all-time record on the day of $511,000. Co-CEOs, Earl Evans and Allan Zion, have generously contributed an additional $100,000, bringing the total donation to an awesome $611,000. The Shaw and Partners Institutional Foundation Day is undoubtedly our most impactful initiative to date, where all brokerage fees generated from institutional trades on a designated day are donated to charity. This year, as we mentioned the funds raised will be evenly distributed between the Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation (SCHF) and the Australian Fund Manager Foundation. Thanks to everyone who participated on the day but a special mention to the top 10 institutions: Wilson Asset Management Milford Pendal Regal Funds Management Colonial First State L1 Capital Firetrail Investments Antares Tyndall Asset Management 1851 Capital Without their fundamental support, the Shaw and Partners Institutional Foundation Day would not have been a success. Shaw and Partners remains committed to its engaged approach to philanthropy, focusing on providing support to Australian charities across areas of mental health, education, and social inclusion that have little access to government funding. 🗣 Have your say on how we work with charities, voluntary organizations, and town and parish councils to help them take ownership and management of council owned assets. We believe that these transfers represent a significant opportunity to strengthen local engagement and make sure assets are managed in a way that best serves the needs of our residents. We are looking to develop a new Disposal and Community Asset Transfer (CAT) Policy which will outline a framework for identifying and transferring surplus assets, such as land, property, and buildings. 🔗Read the proposals and have your say by following the link in the comments.

United Way Greater Toronto has launched a new campaign to combat the growing space affordability crisis plaguing non-profits and charities across the region. UWGT, the region’s largest non-governmental funder, promises to raise $100 million over the next ten years to build ten new community hubs and launch several new real estate-focused programs. 💬 “We’re really glad that there’s a really robust conversation about deeply affordable housing, but community services agencies are also at risk of being displaced, too,” said Ruth Crammond, UWGT’s vice president of community infrastructure. 🔗 Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/gpaNPMf6 #futureofgood #nonprofits #affordablehousing #communityimpact #socialgood #charities #communitydevelopment #nonprofitfunding #socialimpact #communitysupport #fundraising #nonprofitsector #realestate #infrastructure #toronto

This is really important strategically for our sector. #Charitable #Grantmakers by themselves won't be able to shoulder the demand entirely. Rectifying the dire state of #LocalGovernment finances but also improving #Corporate giving and #Philanthropy, getting it higher up the policy agenda has to be part of the solution in my opinion. Also getting the #DormantAssets actually deployed to communities via #CommunityWealthFund(s).
📈Amid a serious decline in funding - from government, local authorities and individual donations - grants from charitable foundations are one of the few funding streams that has remained stable during a time of increased demand for charities. Emily Harle's analysis in Third Sector explores how this demand is shifting upstream and the impact it is having on grantmakers. https://lnkd.in/em7qTbv6 🔍𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: 1. 📊 Surge in applications: Association of Charitable Foundations members report staggering increases in application volumes – ranging from 30% to an overwhelming 100%. 2. ⚖️ Capacity constraints: grantmakers face the delicate balance of managing this surge, usually with a very small staff team, while maintaining fair, effective evaluation processes. 3. 🔄 Adaptive responses from funders: - Increasing funding allocations - Restructuring grant programmes to better align with charities' needs - Streamlining decision-making processes - Reducing administrative burden on applicants 4. ⏸️ Temporary Pauses: Some grantmakers have had to temporarily suspend new applications while implementing these essential changes. At Association of Charitable Foundations we emphasise the importance of collaboration between funders. When grantmakers consider pausing their programmes, we encourage dialogue with other funders to understand the ecosystem-wide impact of such decisions. #CharitableFunding #Philanthropy #NonprofitSector #GrantMaking #SocialImpact

A survey of Jersey charities and voluntary entities. So What? - managed and conducted by global leaders in third sector interests (so, done properly) - this measures and validates the contribution of the sector, independently - identifies risks and issues for action - raises awareness of the contribution to voters - debunks some common myths In my (hopefully informed) opinion, this survey is a seminal moment for the third sector in Jersey; an objective, independent measure of the status and contribution of the non-governmental voluntary and charitable entities that supplement and enhance our lives and our community. I think the data speaks for itself. Notably, this was instigated by the visionary, selfless kindness of a private anonymous donor. Think about that: no public credit, no plaudits, no ambition for honorary recognition. Just outcome. Slightly contrary to the narrative in public domain. Discuss. Jersey Community Foundation together with PwC have delivered the first of (I hope) many contemporary surveys that measure and educate re the contribution of this sector, hopefully influencing public opinion and government strategy. I am immensely proud to have been party to this initiative through the Advisory Panel and excited about what this could mean for future investment and strategy. We’re excited to share our groundbreaking 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗝𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘆. Charities, non-profits and volunteers play a vital role in our island community, contributing an impressive £𝟮𝟯𝟬 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗝𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘆’𝘀 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 - almost matching the impact of Jersey’s legal sector. And this only scratches the surface. This figure doesn’t capture every organisation in the third sector or the sector’s invaluable contributions to wellbeing, cultural enrichment and environmental care, which means the true value is far greater. To keep Jersey’s third sector thriving, we need support from everyone – the public, businesses and the government alike. These organisations are a vital part of our island community, strengthening Jersey and helping it be more resilient. 🔗 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: https://lnkd.in/eXcxbDkV This report was conducted by PwC Channel Islands and commissioned by Jersey Community Foundation, with support from Jersey Overseas Aid and Jersey Community Partnership.
