The pressure is building for the EU to embrace dual-use research, with EU leaders including research and innovation in dual-use technologies in the 2024-2029 agenda for the first time and the Science, Research and Innovation Performance (SRIP) report, released by the Commission last week, underlining the need for the EU to take defence R&D more seriously. EU investment in defence has seen a steady increase over the past five years, but most spending is on equipment. Meanwhile, spending on basic and applied research, and technology validation has fallen behind.

World Creativity and Innovation Day is celebrated internationally each year on 21st April and runs alongside World Creativity & Innovation Week (15th to 21st April). On this day we ask Dominic Cernis, TP Group’s Chief Technical Officer, what innovation means to us as a science and technology company and the importance to the future of UK defence: “Innovation is the cornerstone of adaptability, and emerging concepts provide the catalyst for transformative change. Furthermore, the adoption of emerging concepts fosters a culture of continuous improvement within defence. It encourages a forward-thinking mindset that prioritises innovation, experimentation and the integration of lessons learned from previous research. This adaptability is crucial for maintaining strategic relevance and readiness in an environment where the only constant is change. By engaging with emerging concepts, Defence can enhance its resilience, responsiveness and overall future technology strategy.” Find out more about how in the realm of defence innovation, TP Group pioneers transformative change through its expertise. Specialising in concept generation, assessment, and road mapping, we empower clients to shape the future of defence with informed, evidence-based decisions. https://lnkd.in/eX3BjiAu #worldcreativityandinnovationday #scienceandtechnology #innovation #defence #consultants #futuresandconcepts
