Region's SMEs win defence funding to drive innovation 🛡️🪙 Three UK SMEs have been awarded funding through the latest rounds of the Defence Technology Exploitation Programme (DTEP). Bristol-based High Temperature Material Systems Ltd, OpenWorks Engineering Ltd in Northumberland and Oxford's Mind Foundry Ltd. will each collaborate with a higher-tier supplier who will mentor them over the duration of a forthcoming defence project. They will receive a government grant worth 50 per cent of the project value to develop innovative new solutions that meet UK defence challenges and increase capability in the UK defence supply chain. DTEP, which seeks to improve the competitiveness of the UK Defence supply chain, is sponsored by the MOD’s Directorate of Industrial Strategy and Exports (DISE) and delivered through the Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA), Innovate UK, and ADS Group Ltd. As of April 3rd, Canadian (and UK/Australian) companies can now join DIBC, the OTA consortium focused on strengthening the defence industrial base. The focus areas of projects at DIBC include: Strategic and Critical Materials Kinetic capabilities (i.e., hypersonics) Energy storage and batteries Castings and forgings Microelectronics Workforce Development Small Unmanned Aerial Systems (sUAS) Submarine Industrial Base3 Space Industrial Base Biomanufacturing Current open solicitations: Microelectronics - https://lnkd.in/gq8zKw9h Kinetic Capabilities (Hypersonics) - https://lnkd.in/gMdaE4Dw Upcoming solicitations: Critical Materials Kinetics Canadian companies must have an NCAGE code and be registered in SAM.gov to join DIBC. Quick background on OTA consortia: OTAs are a unique DoD contracting vehicle that serves as a fast-track way to research, prototype, and procure new technologies. A single entity called an OTA consortium receives a master contract from DoD to manage research and prototyping projects focused on a specific tech area. The OTA consortium accepts vetted member companies, who pay a nominal fee to join. DoD directs the consortium to issue RFPs/RFIs for individual projects under the overall OTA consortium contract. Only companies that have joined the relevant OTA consortium may respond and there is no competitive bid process. Successful respondent companies work directly with DoD to conduct the research, develop a prototype, or otherwise advance the technology so that it is field ready. A successful research or prototyping contract can then lead to a direct, sole-source procurement from the company. https://lnkd.in/gDgtQmTY

At the invitation of OSTİM Savunma ve Havacılık Kümelenmesi (OSSA) (Ostim Defence and Aviation Cluster) last week I had the privilege and chance to attend #ICDDA2024 in Ankara. This unique event focused on #B2B meetings and aimed at bringing closer potential buyers and suppliers. I must say, we would need many more of such events in Europe. This is how needs and capabilities can be matched and business made. For over 2 days together with Peter Bolesza CEO of SciEngineer we were negotiating with respected companies such as Roketsan Roket Sanayii ve Ticaret. A. Ş., ASPILSAN Enerji, Tenneco, NESA Aerospace and Engineering, BlueRoom Simulation, OIP N.V. and some more. Planning to return in 2026. #defence #defenceindustry #industrialcooperation
