Drift isn’t the enemy—lack of context is. When drift occurs, teams often waste hours chasing causes and debating fixes. env0’s Drift Cause changes that. 🚀 Unlike traditional drift detection, we don’t just highlight drift—we tell you why it happened and what to do next: • Pinpoint changes: Know the who, what, and when of every drift event. • Context over chaos: Understand how and why infrastructure changed. • Accelerated fixes: Equip your team to resolve issues with clarity and confidence. Drift is inevitable, but confusion doesn’t have to be. Learn more 👉 https://lnkd.in/gdadabX7 P.S. What’s your biggest drift challenge? Topic: minimizing dependencies when building applications I was reading through a short e-book from Bridget Harris, CEO of YouCanBookMe, about bootstrapping a tech company. In the section about engineering your product she said: Don't agonize about "monoliths". It's all just systems, sub-systems and dependencies at the end of the day, whether the boundary is a virtual machine or a datacenter. You can do it well or screw it up just as easily with either approach. ... That really resonates with me. I've seen some absolutely terrible cloud-first architectures and micro-services that never should have been built as such. Cloud services are just a tool. Minimizing dependencies is CRITICAL for the maintainability of your system, and those dependencies come in the form of external APIs you call and internal APIs to libraries you are relying on. All software has dependencies, but you need to choose them with care, especially the ones that are most critical. Adding a dependency should be a careful decision, with attention to that dependency's dependencies. Blindly accepting a huge tree of libraries built on libraries built on libraries (I'm looking at you, NPM) may work for today, but you are cursing whoever has to maintain the system later on as they try to deal with all those dependencies. Same thing with integrating 25 different services from your favorite cloud provider into your product. Just because it's there doesn't mean you have to use it! Pick and choose the ones you really need. What's your favorite story about huge lists of dependencies?
