The Hidden Risks of Third-Party API Dependencies #2: Reliability and Performance When a third-party API fails it often has a direct impact on your platform’s reliability. Outages, throttling due to rate-limits, and intermittent failures degrade user experience and can be hard to troubleshoot. Qpoint delivers real-time monitoring, error detection, and actionable insights to ensure issues are caught and resolved before they impact your users. 🔍 Learn more: https://qpnt.io/4iLMoVR #eBPF #API #SRE #PlatformEngineering

What is an API Gateway? An API Gateway acts as a gatekeeper between clients and a collection of microservices. It handles request routing, composition, and protocol translation, often providing features like load balancing, caching, and authentication. Key Features: • 𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗥𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: Directs incoming requests to the appropriate service. • 𝗔𝗣𝗜 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Aggregates multiple services into a single API. • 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: Controls the number of requests a user can send to an API within a specific time frame. • 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆: Provides features like authentication and authorization. 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗨𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗔𝗣𝗜 𝗚𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘄𝗮𝘆 • Centralized Management • Enhanced Security • Load Balancing • Rate Limiting • Analytics and Monitoring #api #gateway #rest #restful

Compute@Edge and VCL both enable advanced customization of Fastly’s CDN behavior at the edge, but they serve different use cases and have varying levels of flexibility. While VCL is Highly optimized to offer a very low latency, Compute@Edge can handle more complex app logic and also offers a greater flexibility and help running any kind of logic, enabling advanced use cases like edge personalization, microservices, or API handling. DataDome recently added Fastly Compute to its supported server-side integrations! We now support both Fastly VCL & Fastly Compute@Edge. The new Fastly Compute integration is the latest in a range of DataDome integrations as we expand our supported platforms. We have over 25 server-side integrations available today, 50+ total integrations, and more! https://gag.gl/vb5mhA

🚀 Excited to share that I've just written a new article titled "Demystifying API Gateway & Load Balancer" on my personal blog! 📝 Check out the article on my blog: https://lnkd.in/dpEahaf7 As a disclaimer, I must mention that I'm quite a novice in System design. I'm eager to learn and grow, so I welcome any inputs or corrections you may have on the article. Feel free to share your thoughts on how I can improve the content or if there are any inaccuracies. Let's demystify the world of API Gateways and Load Balancers together! 💡 #APIGateway #LoadBalancer #SystemDesign #TechArticles

In recent blogs, we’ve discussed the benefits of being able to monetise APIs. Now, let’s move from the “why” to the “how” and explore API gateways. Read on. Recently, we’ve written about the benefits of API monetisation. You can read about why monetising APIs is valuable here and learn about API ecosystems here. In this blog, we’re going to turn specifically to API Gateways. What is an API gateway? For network operators perhaps it’s best to think of it as a hub that offers a unified entry point for managing and securing access to network functions, data, and application services. Given this role, it’s fast becoming a critical component that serves as an intermediary between clients (e.g., applications, devices, or user interfaces) and backend services (e.g., network functions, databases, or microservices). The basic function of the gateway (or gateways) is to centralise and manage the processing of API requests, which includes routing, security, load balancing, and protocol translation. To understand gateways better, let’s look at those responsibilities in more detail because in network infrastructure, where services are distributed, they are vital.
