Climate Scorpion: The Sting is in the Tail - Introducing Planetary Insolvency Sandy Trust, Head of Organisational Risk at M&G plc, and Lucy Saye, Actuarial Manager at Deloitte, and previous chair at the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries #SustainabilityBoard, present the 'Climate Scorpion' report. This report follows the #IoFA and University of Exeter's 'The Emperor's New Climate Scenarios' paper, challenging the accuracy of #NGFS and #CBES scenarios. In this in-depth #FinextraTVUnplugged interview with Richard Peers, ResponsibleRisk Ltd, they delve into #tippingpoints, #cascadingrisks, and the potential for #positivetippingpoints, exploring the uncertainty surrounding #Carbonbudgets and their underlying assumptions. ISDA CEO Scott O'Malia has written a new derivatiViews blog on the development of short-term #climate risk scenarios for the #trading book. “Future climate shocks are likely to fall into two distinct categories – a physical event, such as a flood or an earthquake, or a transition event, such as a change in climate policy or the introduction of a carbon tax. In either scenario, there would be knock-on implications for financial markets, which could be severe depending on the scale of the shock,” O’Malia writes. ISDA recently completed the second phase of its work on climate risk scenario analysis in the trading book, which involved the design and modelling of three specific climate scenarios. These scenarios break new ground, using the conceptual framework as a foundation to demonstrate how the trading book impact of climate shocks can be modelled. The American Dream is largely predicated on the building of wealth and stability via the ownership of property. Vast amounts of infrastructure and whole financial and social ecosystems were created and flourished in support of this aspect of the capitalist system. But, as Derek asks Melony, is this coming to an end as climate change disrupts our ideas about which areas are still valuable? Is something more valuable about to take the place of ownership? 🔁 #FridayReplay Do current industry climate scenarios meet the needs of investors ❓ In this webinar, Scientific Director Riccardo Rebonato and Research Director Dherminder Kainth explore how to extend and repurpose the climate scenario framework for financial-decision making. Existing climate scenarios, inspired by the IPCC framework, offer invaluable insights but were not designed with financial applications in mind. Despite their excellent quality, they fall short in serving investors' needs. In particular they have no probabilities associated with them, and do not adequately convey the huge uncertainty in climate outcomes. During the webinar #EDHECRiskClimate experts presented breakthrough research on #ClimateRisk modeling for financial decision-making and discussed the following issues: ✔️ The importance of #ClimateScenarios and how they differ from market-risk scenarios. ✔️ The adequacy of current industry scenarios for investor needs. ✔️ The central role of uncertainty: creating probability distributions of economic damages. ✔️ Providing investors with what they need: transitioning from probability distributions to probability-aware scenarios. ✔️ Implementing reverse #stresstesting with climate damages 👉 Access the replay: https://lnkd.in/dsWBh-Y6
